The Palm Beach County Council for In Transition Youth (C.I.T.Y.) was established to identify barriers, develop plans and work on solutions through the community collaborations to improve outcomes for youth with disibilities transitioning from secondary education.
Mission
An interagency co-operation to create comprehensive objectives and methodologies in all phases of youth development to assist them in determining, through informed choices, their vocational goals and pathways to independence, productivity and satisfaction in society as an adult.
Goals
The following goals were select from the Florida Statewide Strategic Plan as priorities for CITY:
GOAL 1: Development of county-wide, career preparation programs to meet the individual needs of youth with disabilities.
GOAL 2: Find and replicate model programs for all students with disabilities.
GOAL 3: Partnerships within the community are in place in order to improve employment and career experience for all youth with disabilities.
Steering Committee
CITY formed a Steering Committee made up of approximately 30 members from the Full Council membership. The Steering Committee meets on a monthly basis to collectively discuss the activities of the subcommittees. CITY members agreed to divide the activities of the Palm Beach County Transition Plan into four areas to simplify addressing the volume of activities on the plan. The Steering Committee meets monthly and reports to the Full Council on a semiannual basis. The subcommittees meet monthly or as needed to work on current activities.
Subcommittees
The subcommittees work on executing the Palm Beach County Plan through identified activities to achieve CITY goals. Each subcommittee developed a PATH for a visual representation of each subcommittee’s goals and activities. The four subcommittees created by category of activities are:

BUSINESS: Activities having to do with the business community, jobs, etc.
CURRICULM: Activities involving schools, teachers, curriculum, the school district, post-secondary education, DOE, etc.
