2011 Facilities Forum
The Division of Support Operations

2011 Facilities Forum

Joseph SanchesGood morning. I trust that you enjoyed the employee appreciation breakfast and the Trade Fair we prepared just for you.

I’d like to welcome you to the Facilities Forum. Why the new name for this event? As you may know School Food Services and Transportation are now combined with the facilities departments to form the Division of Support Operations. With our now larger division, it would not be appropriate to continue calling this event the “State of the Division” when two of the six departments are not attending today.

Regardless of its name, we still view this event as a time for celebration, reflection and looking ahead. We will acknowledge the incredible work that was accomplished in Fiscal Year 2011 by the hard working, dedicated employees in all of the facilities departments. You continue to perform with integrity, professionalism and pride despite the challenges before you. These challenges range from personal and departmental financial shortfalls to learning new technology. Out of my deep respect for you and appreciation for your dedication, I pledge to address as many of these thorny issues as I can today in the short time we have together.

This morning we will also address the reorganization of the division and our commitment to be One Division with One Vision. I will also introduce our new vision, core values and strategic imperatives. Despite our challenges, I am not backing down or lowering our standards. In fact, we will raise standards as they relate to customer service, treatment of employees, fiscal accountability, and process improvements. We will move forward without making excuses, and we will always strive to Exceed Expectations as we strengthen our reputation as a world-class organization.

There is no doubt that we are in a battle and the enemy is not each other, but the lack of funds which prohibits us from doing all the things we need and want to do for our customers and employees. We have made some great strides and we have made some mistakes. In the end we will not be measured on our performance when money was more plentiful, but how we survived and thrived during the toughest times. As the heroic WWII general George S. Patton said, “The test of success is not what you do when you are on top. Success is how high you bounce when you hit bottom.” Hopefully, we will never truly hit bottom; but if we continue to make smart decisions and work hard, we will come out of this difficult period even better than we entered it.

Sincerely,

Joseph Sanches
