Welcome to Environmental & Conservation Services

Environmental and Conservation Services (ECS) is one of the six departments under the Division of Support Operations (DSO). ECS is responsible for the District's compliance with all environmental regulations and for providing assistance to schools and departments dealing with environmental and health-related issues. ECS acts as a regulator, educator and consultant. In addition, the District's Green Schools Initiative is led by ECS and covers topics such as recycling, energy conservation, and other green school activities.

ECS's Environmental Program Section manages asbestos, hazardous and industrial waste, fuel tanks, radon, environmental pre-purchase audits, wetlands, protected species, wellfield protection, coordinating demolitions and indoor air quality. This includes field inspections, sampling, waste disposal, recycling, employee training programs and contracted services.

As the other half of ECS, the Utilities Section is responsible for managing the District's utility services, including trash and recycling, propane, diesel and oil, and natural gas, and water and sewer. The Utilities Section also operates a computerized Energy Management System (EMS) in an effort to control energy usage in District facilities.
