| School Food Service Manager Intern Program |
Each year based on assessed needs the School Food Service Department interviews and hires a class of Manager Interns. This Program consists of a combination of classroom and on-location training. The Class of 2012 has 14 members who will begin the program in October. There are two rotations where the intern will train side-by-side with the training manager at a primary and secondary school. The intern’s training includes but is not limited to USDA and DOE Policy & Procedures, Customer Service, Financial Accountability, and Safety & Sanitation Principals. Once the Manager Intern successfully completes the program they are eligible to apply for the School Food Service Manager’s positions that become available.
| Corporate Care Works Wellness Seminars |
The School Food Service Department offers monthly Wellness Seminars for Administrative Staff, Managers, and Manager Interns. F/Y 2012 Trainings include: CHANGE MANAGEMENT OVERVIEW, CREATING HEALTHY LIFESTYLES, FINANCIAL FITNESS: CONTROLLING YOUR DEBT, REDUCING HOLIDAY STRESS, STAYING TOUGH IN TOUGH TIMES; COPING WITH ECONOMIC UNCERTAINTY, and VALUING GENERATIONS AT WORK.
| Manager In Service Meetings |
Four times during the course of the school year School Food Service Managers are required to attend Manager In Service Meetings. These all-day meetings consist of training that includes but is not limited to updates to USDA and DOE Policy and Procedures, Financial Accountability, Customer Service, and Safety & Sanitation. The Manager shares this information with their staff in an effort to increase efficiency in their kitchen.
| Professional Development Day Training |
During the course of the school year the District schedules Professional Development Day. The School Food Service Department utilizes this day for Managers to deliver training to their Staff. FY 2012 trainings include Safe Food Handling, Customer Service, Team Building, Food Safety and Sanitation, Performance Issues and Due Process, HACCP Principles, and Health Department Inspections.
Food Production and Equipment Use & Care Training |
Two times a year the Food Production and Equipment Use & Care class is offered to all School Food Service employees. This training includes following recipes, USDA Policy & Procedures, Meal Service, Customer Service and proper use and care and general maintenance of all kitchen equipment.
| Food Service Employee Training |
This training has been developed for the “new” Food Service employee but can also be beneficial for employees that may need a “brushing up”. Training includes: Dress & Hygiene Code, Employee Commitment to Good Food Safety & Sanitation Practices, Customer Service, HACCP Principles, Offer VS Serve, and reviews the Food Service Employee Handbook.
CPR/AED Training |
All Administrative Staff, School Food Service Managers, and Interns receive certification in CPR/AED from Life Safety Solutions. The certification is renewed every two years.
| SERVSAFE Food Safety Certification Program |
The School Food Service Department requires our Food Service Managers to attend the SERVSAFE Certification Workshop and obtain a passing score of 75% on the Certification exam. This certification must be renewed every five years. Currently the School Food Service Department has 242 Food Service Managers, Manager Interns, and Administrative Staff certified in the SERV SAFE Program. School Food Service has two Certified SERVSAFE Instructors on Staff.
