The Department of Athletics manages certification for teacher and non-teacher school physical education coaches. The requirements vary slightly between the two groups, but must be adhered to. The State of Florida requires all coaches to have either a teacher certificate or a coaching certificate when working with students.
- Requirements for Teacher Certified Coaches
- Yearly - CPR with AED
- Bi-Annual - First Aid
- Note: The classroom and hands-on training is done by Life Safety Solutions Paramedics
- Renewals require a 1 hour review and a hands-on section
- Requirements for Non-Teacher Coaches
- Complete the Teacher Certified Coach requirements
- Coaching Certificate from the State of Florida
- Each non-teacher coach can obtain a 3 year temporary certificate while enrolled in the courses required for a permenant 5 year certificate
- To get a permenant certificate, the temporary teaching coach must complete 3 college level 60 point courses:
- Coaching Theory
- Care and Prevention of Athletic Injury
- Theory and Practice of Coaching a Specific Sport
- Note: A college transcript of any completed courses above can be submitted
