Centennial Celebration Activities & Events
Alexander Dreyfoos School of the Arts
Students in History classes will create storyboards or video documentaries
based on oral interviews. These will be used to form a history fair.
The top two from each category will be selected and entered as contestants
for the Palm Beach County History Day category "Individuals In History."
Banyan Creek Elementary
Students will participate in an essay contest and art project depicting
the evolution of education over the past 100 years.
Cholee Lake Elementary
Students will participate in a Centennial essay contest.
Clifford O. Taylor/Kirklane Elementary
Students will decorate their classroom doors depicting
the way school would have been 100 years ago.
Emerald Cove Middle
Students will create artwork with historic themes for display throughout
the school.
H. L. Johnson Elementary
On the 100th day of school, H. L. Johnson Elementary is planning a schoolwide
event. Each student and staff member will dress in costume and participate
in a school day typical of 100 years ago.
H. L. Watkins Middle School
6th, 7th and 8th grade Social Studies classes will utilize the Palm Beach
County History and Civics newspaper insert to study the history of schools
dating back 100 years. Activities supporting this study will take place
within their classes.
L. C. Swain Middle
The students and staff will put together a PowerPoint presentation on
the City of Greenacres, Lawrence Carter Swain, and L.C. Swain Middle School.
Limestone Creek Elementary
Limestone Creek Elementary will have a schoolwide theme day "Dress
How Students Dressed 100 Years Ago." Intermediate grades are completing
research projects on the Centennial and primary students are going to
complete writing assignments and projects based on the same theme.
Poinciana Elementary
Students school-wide will make a quilt in art to commemorate the School
District’s 100th Anniversary.
Schoolhouse Children's Museum
The Schoolhouse Children's Museum will be hosting a special exhibit in
the Community Archives Gallery called, "The School bell is Ringing." The
exhibit will feature photographs, objects, artifacts and memorabilia
of the history of seven Boynton Beach area schools. The Exhibit opens
January 13, 2009 and will run through April 18, 2009.
Seminole Trails Elementary
Seminole Trails Elementary will join the district's Centennial Celebration
by integrating lessons into daily plans and through special in-house
TV broadcasts. Students will learn songs and games of the era and explore
what life was like for a student in 1909. Activities will culminate with
the burial of a time capsule and a gala program, "Then and Now."
Sunset Palms Elementary
Students will participate in two art projects. The first project will
incorporate the school name “Sunset Palms” and the second
one will incorporate the school mascot the sea turtle.
