6/17/10 Boca Raton Community High School Educator Named Kappa Delta Pi “Teacher Of Honor” - Dr. Phyllis T. Pacilli, a mathematics teacher at Boca Raton Community High School, won this year’s Teacher of Honor Award from Kappa Delta Pi, International Honor Society in Education.
6/17/10 Senior School Volunteer Honored As A Community Champion By Molina HealthcareMolina Healthcare of Florida recently recognized six unsung heroes at its first annual Community Champions Awards dinner, which was held in Tampa.  One of the winners was 79-year-old retired scientist and Crosspointe Elementary School volunteer Fred Rosene, who won the Volunteer Award.
6/16/10 Hagen Road Elementary Honored By Alliance For A Healthier Generation For Efforts To Combat Childhood Obesity - The Alliance for a Healthier Generation, founded by the American Heart Association and the William J. Clinton Foundation, recognized Hagen Road Elementary for transforming its campus into a healthier place for students and staff at their National Healthy Schools Forum in New York, NY.

6/10/10 Boca Raton Middle School Bands Earn First Place In Smoky Mountain Music Festival - Boca Raton Middle School Band students recently boarded buses to head to Gatlinburg, Tennessee to compete in the Smoky Mountain Music Festival, one of the oldest and most respected band competitions in the United States. 
6/7/10 LatinArt Expo Features School District Employee - Ida Perez, Graphic Artist for the School District of Palm Beach County is one of a group of talented Hispanics being featured at the LatinArt Expo that is currently taking place in CityPlace in West Palm Beach. 
6/7/10 Palm Beach Central High Receives Model Academy Ranking - Palm Beach Central High School’s Engineering Academy had their program reviewed to evaluate how they rate on the National Standards of Practice for career academies.  A team from the National Career Academy Coalition and the Association of Career and Technical Education assessed the academies using the Career Academy National Standards of Practice.
6/4/10 School District Educator To Serve On National Council On Digital Citizenship And Creative Content - Hollyanne Ruffner, Specialist, Library Services, with the School District, was recently selected to serve on the National Council on Digital Citizenship and Creative Content.
6/3/10 2010 Beginning Teachers Of The Year Honored For Outstanding Performance - The 3rd Annual Beginning Teacher of the Year Award Ceremony took place at the School District of Palm Beach County on Tuesday, May 25. The Professional Development Department and the Education Foundation of Palm Beach County, Inc. co-sponsored the event in support of first year teachers.
6/3/10 Palm Beach County Council of PTA/PTSA Awards Two Scholarships - The Palm Beach County Council of PTA/PTSA awarded two scholarships this year.  Scholarship winners were chosen based on an original essay and letters of recommendation.   The first scholarship went to a graduating high school senior and for the first time ever, a second scholarship was awarded to an active adult PTA member.
6/1/10 Two Palm Beach County Teachers Named Regional Reading Coaches of the Year - Just Read, Florida! and the Florida Literacy Coaches Association have named Gisele Lowe from Palm Beach Lakes High School and Brenda Darr from Boca Raton Middle School, Regional Reading Coaches of the Year. 
5/28/10 Facilities Services Department Wins Prestigious Sunshine Medallion Award - The Sunshine State Public Relations Association (SUNSPRA) has awarded Facilities Services the 2010 Sunshine Medallion Award for the department’s newsletter, The Summit. SUNSPRA sponsors the awards to recognize the hard work of Florida school districts through the School Public Relations Recognition Program.
5/26/10 Golden Grove Elementary Snatches Top Spots In County Science Fair - Golden Grove Elementary School performed extremely well in this year’s Palm Beach County Science Fair.  This year’s science fair had many accomplished projects that were recognized.
5/21/10 Palm Beach County Students Receive Gates Millennium Scholarship - Nalani Gordon from Suncoast High School, Juliana Prieto from Glades Central High School, and Jada Thomas and Clayborn Mathis from Palm Beach Lakes High School are recipients of the 2010 Gates Millennium Scholarship. 
5/21/10 The National Association For Minority Contractors, South Florida Chapter Honors School District Chief of Facilities Management - Joseph Sanches, Chief of Facilities Management for the School District of Palm Beach County, will receive the Public Sector Award from the National Association For Minority Contractors, South Florida Chapter. 
5/20/10 Crossroads Academy Honors 2010 Graduating Seniors - The faculty and staff of Crossroads Academy honored the 2010 graduating seniors with a breakfast celebrating their achievements. The event took place at the school and 25 seniors attended. Crossroads Academy students strive to overcome many obstacles and this achievement marks a better future not only for them but for the community.
5/20/10 Boynton Beach High Performing Arts Student Accepted At Prestigious Alvin Ailey’s Summer Intensive Program in New York City - Performing Arts student Leon Cobb has been accepted to a summer program at the prestigious Alvin Ailey’s Summer Intensive Program in New York City.  Leon is an extremely talented young man in both drama and dance.  Acceptance into the summer dance program is highly competitive.
5/20/10 Palm Springs Middle School 8th Grader Wins National “Fuel Up To Play 60” Award - Accel Castillo, an eighth-grader from Palm Springs Middle School, has taken the top individual honor for the inaugural Fuel Up to Play 60 competition, beating 198,825 peers from around the country.
5/20/10 U.B.Kinsey/Palmview Elementary School of the Arts Designated An Arts Achieve! Model School - The Florida Alliance for Arts Education (FAAE) recently renewed U. B. Kinsey/Palmview Elementary School of the Arts in West Palm Beach, as an Arts Achieve! Model School. The recognition will be presented at FAAE’s annual Leadership Summit on June 17 in Lakeland, FL.
5/19/10 Royal Palm Beach High School Students Win Gold At State Competition - The Royal Palm Beach Highs School (RPBHS) Medical Science Academy Students participated in the Health Occupations Students of America (HOSA) State Leadership Competition that took place in Orlando in April 2010.
5/19/10 Palm Beach County Students Win At National Chess Championship - The Elementary National Chess Championships took place recently in Atlanta, GA. The tournament is organized by the United States Chess Federation (USCF), which is a not-for-profit membership organization for chess players and chess supporters of all ages. A total of 2063 students participated in nine sections of the tournament.

Wilcox Minority Summer Residency Program  for Junior and Senior high school students.

5/17/10 Palm Beach County Students Win At The International Science and Engineering Fair - The Intel International Science and Engineering Fair was held in San Jose, California this past week. There were 1625 participants from 69 countries.
5/17/10 Haitian Heritage Month Student Essay Contest Winners To Be Featured At Author Talk At County’s Main Library - Claude Emmanuel David, a junior at Wellington High, Kelsey Strose, a senior at Wellington High and Jupiter Cham Fleurimon, a junior at Palm Beach Lakes High, who won respectively first, second and third place in this year’s Haitian Heritage Month Essay Contest, will participate at an author talk at the County’s Main Library.

5/13/10 County Council of PTA/PTSA Recognizes Student Artists - The Palm Beach County Council of PTA/PTSA was honored to recognize over 100 students who had artwork submitted to the council in six art categories, in four age divisions, from 11 different local PTA units.
5/13/10 Largest State Air Force Junior ROTC Hands Out Awards - Florida’s largest Air Force Junior Reserve Officers Training Corps (AFJROTC) recognized the achievements of its cadets with an “Awards Night” recently. The Lake Worth High School Auditorium was filled with over 350 parents, relatives, faculty, and fellow cadets who attested to the numerous, often unnoticed, endeavors of the cadets within the wing.

Students at Palm Beach Maritime Academy got the chance recently by participating in the 14th annual Plywood Regatta in Dania Beach sponsored by the Marine Industries Association of South Florida.

5/10/10 Four Palm Beach County Seniors Complete College Degree While Attending High School - Juliana Prieto and Matletha Fuller from Glades Central High School, Brittani Coore from Wellington High School and Krystal Neira from Park Vista High School completed the 60 credit hours required for an Associate in Arts degree while at the same time obtaining their high school diploma.
5/10/10 Palm Beach County National Academic Games All-Stars Bring Home 90 Awards - The Palm Beach County National Academic Games All-Stars brought home 90 awards from the recent Academic Games League of America Tournament held in Cincinnati, Ohio.  Competition to qualify for the National Tournament began in September.
5/7/10 Royal Palm Beach Community High School Students Beat the Stock Market - Royal Palm Beach High School students displayed their dominance last month by taking the first, second, and third place awards in the high school division of a nationwide stock market game sponsored by the SIFMA Foundation for Investor Education.
5/7/10 Dreyfoos Social Studies Teacher Appointed to Presidential Academy - Social studies teacher, Jeffrey Stohr, has been appointed as the Florida representative to this summer’s Presidential Academy for American History and Civics, July 11 through July 29. The Academy selects one teacher per state to travel to Philadelphia, Gettysburg and Washington DC to be a part of an intensive study of American history and government.
5/7/10 Three Palm Beach County Schools Awarded Solar Power Grant - Atlantic Community High School, Palm Beach Gardens High School and West Gate Elementary are three of 90 schools statewide who received a 10kW solar powered system to illustrate how electricity can be generated by the sun.
5/7/10 Outstanding Volunteers and Business Partners Honored - Over 600 volunteers, community partners, school administrators and support staff attended the School District’s 2010 Volunteer and Business Partners Awards Recognition breakfast.  Sally Sevareid with KOOL, 105.5’s Mo & Sally Morning Show was the Mistress of Ceremonies for the event which celebrated school volunteers, business partners and community involvement in education.

5/7/10 Palm Beach County Students Receive Art Scholarships - Each year Palm Beach County schools are invited to participate in the Women in the Visual Art exhibit at Sugar Sand Park in Boca Raton. This year 77 students received over $14,000 in scholarships, monetary awards and art supplies from generous donations to the organization by private benefactors.
5/4/10 Student Engineers From Forest Hill High Bring Home Prizes in Drop It, Build It, Engineering Competition - Forest Hill High School’s  Academy of Engineering competed in the Society of Mechanical Engineer’s Drop It, Build It, Fly It, Launch It and Thrill It Competition at the South Florida Science Museum on April 24.
5/4/10 Team Atlantic Wins PBAU High School Math Competition - Ten high school teams from Boca Raton to Ft. Pierce competed for TI-Inspire CAS (Computer Algebra System) calculators, Best Buy gift certificates, and Texas Instruments designed “Math Rocks” T-Shirts for winning team members.
5/4/10 Crossroads Academy Recognized By Community Blood Centers Of Florida - Crossroads Academy was awarded a trophy for “Most Pints for Alternative Schools 2009 – 2010” at the Palm Beach County Annual School Board Drive Scholarships Awards Luncheon that recently took place at the Kravis Center in West Palm Beach.
5/3/10 NASA Announces Winners Of 17th Annual Great Moonbuggy Race - NASA has announced the victors in the 17th annual Great Moonbuggy Race: The team representing the International Space Education Institute of Leipzig, Germany, won the high school division; and racers from the University of Puerto Rico in Humacao took first place in the college division.

4/29/10 Michael Fraley, Band Director At Boca Raton Middle School, Receives The Randolph A. Frank Performing Arts Educator Prize - Steve Caras, chairman of The Randolph A. Frank Prize for the Performing Arts, has announced that three gifted individuals whose work continues to enrich the quality of the performing arts in Palm Beach County have been selected by the Frank Prize Committee as the second annual recipients of The Randolph A. Frank Prize for the Performing Arts. 
4/28/10 Students Showcase Hard Work At Palm Beach County Elementary Mathematics and Science Fair - The Palm Beach County Elementary Mathematics and Science Fair will be held May 4 and 5, 9:00 am – 7:00 pm and May 6, 9:00 am – 12:00 pm, at the Americraft Expo Center at the South Florida Fairgrounds. The student project displays are open to the public on all three days.
4/28/10 Students Analyze and Excel In Advanced Placement Psychology Bowl - The 3rd Annual Palm Beach County Advanced Placement Psychology Bowl was recently held at Seminole Ridge High School. Twenty (20) students from Olympic Heights High, Seminole Ridge High, Spanish River High, and Suncoast High participated in the four-hour competition. 
4/28/10 William T. Dwyer Awards Announces 2010 Recipients - The Economic Council’s 26th Annual William T. Dwyer Awards FOR Excellence in Education was held on Tuesday, April 27, 2010 at the Raymond F. Kravis Center for the Performing Arts in West Palm Beach. Awards were given in five categories: Elementary Education, Middle School, Senior High School, Career Education and Special Programs.
4/23/10 STUDENT SHOWCASE OF FILMS AWARDS SCHOLARSHIPS TO OUTSTANDING STUDENT FILMMAKERS - The Palm Beach County Film & Television Commission has named two exceptional student filmmakers as the recipients of this year’s scholarships offered by the Palm Beach International Film Festival’s Student Showcase of Films (SSOF).

Kinsey/Palmview Elementary School of the Arts Gold Orchestra and Kinsey Singers performed at the Atlanta Heritage Festival along with other high school groups from all over the United States. 
4/22/10 Hagen Road Elementary Featured for Successful Wellness Efforts - Hagen Road Elementary School is making simple health changes to promote school wellness. In an effort to promote healthy eating habits and exercise the school decided to participate in fundraisers that involve selling items such as gift-wrap, ornaments and other holiday items.

4/21/10 Palm Beach County Students Shine at 25th Annual Statewide Brain Bowl Competition - Seminole Trails Elementary fifth grader Marcus Sutton has been named the Word Wizard Champion at the 25th Annual Statewide Brain Bowl competition held recently in Orlando, but he’s not the sole winner in the county!
4/21/10 Dreyfoos Thespians Winning State Awards, Featured in Film Festival Movie - Dreyfoos theatre students just brought home 40 blue ribbons and other awards from the 2010 Florida State Thespian Festival and if that’s not enough glory, they’re also featured in Thespians (the movie) that kicks off April 24 at the Cobb Theatres!
4/21/10 Student Showcase Of Films Awards Ceremony - The Palm Beach County Film & Television Commission has announced the finalists of the 15th Annual Palm Beach International Film Festival’s Student Showcase of Films (SSOF).
4/20/10 Three Palm Beach County Seniors Named Semifinalists In Presidential Scholars Program - Three Palm Beach County high school seniors have been named semifinalists in the 2010 Presidential Scholars Program.  Dreyfoos School of the Arts students Nina Laufbahn from West Palm Beach and Harrison Tyler from Lake Worth and Atlantic High School student Mike Qian from Boca Raton have been named semifinalist.
4/20/10 Beacon Cove Intermediate School Students Set Record For Reading - The students at Beacon Cove Intermediate School in Jupiter read more minutes than any other school in the Unites States…151,599 minutes…in the Scholastic Book Fairs March Trial Run.  There were 1,181 usernames registered at Beacon Cove and 2,717 individual entries of minutes by those users. All told, the school averaged almost 56 minutes per entry.
4/16/10 The National Campaign to Stop Violence Selects Local Teen Winners in the Do the Write Thing Challenge - Jessica Stone an eighth grader from Lake Worth and Maxx Melanson, a sixth grader from Boca Raton were selected by the Palm Beach County Steering Committee of the National Campaign to Stop Violence as the first place “Ambassadors” for their efforts to stop youth violence in the Do the Write Thing Challenge.
4/15/10 Palm Beach County Students Excel at State Science and Engineering Fair - During April 7 – 9, 2010, 37 students represented Palm Beach County at the Florida State Science and Engineering Fair in Orlando.  These high achieving middle and high school students qualified for this competition at our Palm Beach Regional Fair held this past December.  Their projects covered all areas of scientific investigation. 
4/15/10 Students From Across the County Qualify To Compete at National Academic Games Tournament - Thirty-nine students representing sixteen elementary, middle and high schools in Palm Beach County have qualified to represent Palm Beach County as All-Stars at the 45th Annual National Academic Games Tournament in Cincinnati, Ohio. 
4/14/10 A Team from Atlantic seeks academic glory: Palm Beach County’s winning team set to compete at state challenge - Plenty of high school juniors and seniors may think they know everything. But these six students at Atlantic High actually come close.
4/13/10 Perry Stokes, Social Studies Teacher At Carver Middle School, To Be Honored By JM Family Enterprises - Perry Stokes, Social Studies teacher at Carver Middle School, was honored on April 14, 2010, at the Broward Convention Center by JM Family Enterprises, Inc./Southeast Toyota Distributors, LLC as one of the 2010 African American Achievers for 2010. Mr. Stokes is being honored as the Arts & Culture leader this year.
4/8/10 Jeff Fessler Is The Palm Beach County Teacher Of The Year - School Superintendent Art Johnson surprised Jeff Fessler in class on Thursday, April 8, with the announcement that he is The School District of Palm Beach County-Macy’s Teacher of the Year.  Mr. Fessler teaches reading, social studies and writing at U. B. Kinsey/Palmview Elementary School of the Arts, where he is the grade 4 team leader.
4/7/10 Omni Middle Takes All Silver And Gold At FCCLA State Competition - Twenty three Omni Middle School students participated in STAR Event Competition at the Florida Family, Career and Community Leaders of America conference held March 24-27, 2010 in Orlando Florida.  Every student received either a gold or silver medal demonstrating their high level of achievement in their category of competition.
4/7/10 Lhisa Almashy Receives Hispanic Teacher of the Year Award - Lhisa Almashy received the 2010 Hispanic Teacher of the Year Award that was established by the Hispanic Human Resources Council (HHRC) to honor the many contributions of classroom teachers of Hispanic descent to the students they serve and to education in general.
4/7/10 School District Website Receives “A” Grade - Sunshine Review, a non-profit organization dedicated to state and local government transparency, has given the School District of Palm Beach County website an “A” grade.  Sunshine Review analyzed over 5,000 government websites, including 3,140 counties, 805 cities, and 1,560 school districts.
4/5/10 Santaluces High School Band Members Sweep South Florida Championships - Santaluces High School’s Band entered three groups in the SFWGA Circuit Championships held late last month at Barbara Goleman High School in Miami.  All three groups brought home  First Place finishes and season titles! 
4/5/10 Okeeheelee Middle Voted “Best Middle School” Using Technology To Communicate - Okeeheelee Middle School was voted the Best Middle School in Palm Beach County using technology to communicate.  The school uses technology in a variety of ways to provide technical support, assist students in their learning process and to assist all of the teachers and staff members.
4/5/10 Hispanic Human Resources Announces Hispanic Teacher of the Year Finalists - The annual Palm Beach County Hispanic Teacher of the Year Award was established by the Hispanic Human Resources Council (HHRC) to honor the many contributions of classroom teachers of Hispanic descent to the students they serve and to education in general.
3/30/10 John F. Kennedy Middle Pre-IB Spanish Students Excel At Languages Fair - John F. Kennedy Middle School is proud of 19 students in the Spanish I Pre-IB program.  In the recent 2010 Palm Beach County World Languages Fair held at Palm Beach Central High School the students received 20 Superior and two Excellent awards.
3/30/10 Woodlands Middle School Student Wins At State Chess Championship - Vanessa Pham, 6th grade student at Woodlands Middle School, finished as Co-State Middle School Champion at the State Scholastic Chess Championship that took place recently at the Doubletree Hotel in Miami, FL. The event is sponsored by the United States Chess Federation.
3/29/10 Debbie Ellman, Palm Beach County Parent and Volunteer, Named One of Florida’s Outstanding School Volunteers - Debbie Ellman, a parent and volunteer at Spanish River High School, has been selected as one of Florida’s Outstanding School Volunteers.  Ms. Ellman also the Palm Beach County Adult Volunteer of the Year, has volunteered her time and talents at three different schools during the past thirteen years. 
3/29/10 Bak Middle School Of The Arts Students Winners In Debate, Band, Jazz, Odyssey of the Mind, Art and Community Service - Bak’s Odyssey of the Mind Critical Thinking and Problem Solving team recently won the Regional competition and the team is moving to State competition on Saturday, April 10, at the University of Central Florida in Orlando.
3/26/10 Watson B. Duncan Middle School Band Captures Superior Rating - The Watson B. Duncan Middle School Symphonic Band received a straight superior rating at the Florida Band Association (FBA) District 14 Middle School Band Performance Assessment recently held at Wellington High School.  This is the highest award that a band can receive. 
3/25/10 Santaluces Drumline and Color Guards Win Regional Championships! - The Santaluces High School Junior Varsity AND Varsity Winter Color Guards were crowned WGI South Florida Regional Champions when they won in their respective classes earlier this month.  Santaluces Junior Varsity won the Regional A Class and the Santaluces Varsity were crowned Open Class Champions.

2/10/10 Lake Worth High Future Educators Tops in State - District Team Brings Home First Place Trophy - Thirty-two Lake Worth High School Florida Future Educators of America Club members traveled together to attend the annual FFEA State Conference recently held in Orlando.  They had to make space for a First Place trophy for the return trip when they won the competition in the PowerPoint High School division.  FFEA is the extracurricular arm of the Early Childhood Teacher Academy which organizes student volunteer and fundraising activities.

Royal Palm Beach High School Achieves Great Honors In South Florida Latin Competition - The South Florida Regional Latin Competition took place at J.P. Taravella High School in Coral Springs and a team of ten members from Royal Palm Beach High School Latin Club participated. The team captured a total of 32 awards in twelve different categories. The Latin Club at Royal Palm Beach High obtained four 1st places, five 2nd places and eleven 3rd places. This competition takes place once a year and high schools from Miami-Dade, Broward and Palm Beach Counties participate.

Lake Worth High School Students Grab Top Honors at Health Occupations  Leadership Conference - Winners Headed to State Competition in April - Over 900 Health Occupation Students of America (HOSA) members  from 20 high schools including some in Palm Beach, Martin, and Indian River Counties attended the annual Winter Leadership Conference held recently at Park Vista High School.   When the dust settled, Lake Worth students brought home 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place wins in four categories!   Assistant Principal Brett Packard said the achievement shouldn’t be taken lightly. “These students work hard to prepare for this competition and the fact that 2010 marks the 20th anniversary of the start of the Medical academy at Lake Worth High makes the wins especially sweet,” he stated. The Lake Worth High School Health Science Academy students competed individually and as teams in over thirty health occupation- related events that were held throughout the course of the conference.

Royal Palm Beach High School Photography Students Score Big at Scholastic Art Competition - The Photography students at Royal Palm Beach High School participated in the Scholastic Art competition, which is the nation's longest-running, largest, most prestigious recognition program for creative teenagers in the visual and literary arts. Each year, more than 77,000 students nationwide participate in awards and 21 students from Royal Palm Beach High achieved high levels.

Student Winners Honored In Science and Engineering Fair Award Ceremony - The 53rd Annual Palm Beach County Science and Engineering Fair Award Ceremony was held on February 4, 2010 at Palm Beach Central High School. Many contributors and sponsors from all over the state attended to present awards to students (see attachment) that participated in the Palm Beach County Fair and demonstrated scientific research, promise, and accuracy in the realms of science and engineering.

Riviera Beach Schools Awarded “Safe Routes To School” $45,000 Grant - The School District has been awarded a Florida Department of Transportation grant to make it easier and safer for students at John F. Kennedy Middle School and Dr. Mary McLeod Bethune Elementary to walk or cycle from home to school.  There are 906 students who reside within the two mile radius of these schools, therefore they are not eligible to be bused to school. The $45,000 grant will be used to educate students on the benefits of walking or bicycling to school.  School District staff will coordinate with police officers and crossing guards to assist in implementing a safe walking and bicycling environment.  Safe Path coordinators and speakers will conduct a safe route assessment for the two schools and implement a variety of pedestrian and bicycle encouragement activities.

Roosevelt Middle School Receives Magnet School Of Distinction Award - Roosevelt Middle School has once again received the coveted Magnet School of Distinction Award for 2010 from the national organization, Magnet Schools of America.  Roosevelt was recognized for excellence in its four magnet programs:  Pre-Medical, Pre-Engineering, Environmental Science, and Technology. The school, which opened as a Magnet School in 1995, was selected from among candidates nationwide based on criteria such as desegregation, innovative instructional strategies, student achievement, and parent and community involvement.  George Lockhart, Principal, will be honored at the 28th Magnet Schools of America Conference in May in Tampa, FL.

Royal Palm Beach High School DECA Club Reaches State Competition - The Distributive Education Clubs of America (DECA) at Royal Palm Beach High School advanced to the state competitions. The district-wide contest recently took place at Northwood University in West Palm Beach. Eight students qualified for the state competition that will take place in Orlando from March 4th to 7th, 2010. Students from various high schools across the county participated in the competition such as Wellington High, Jupiter High, Spanish River High, Forest Hill High, South Technical Finance Academy, and Boca Raton High. A total of 24 students from Royal Palm Beach competed in a fierce district competition.

The Best In Career And Technical Education To Be Honored - February is Career and Technical Education (CTE) month--a perfect time to recognize CTE educators and students for their hard work and dedication. The CTE month-long celebration will be kicked off with the Fourth Annual CTE Recognition Dinner to take place this Tuesday, February 2 at the Kravis Center in West Palm Beach. The event begins with a reception at 4:30 PM and the awards ceremony taking place at 6:15 PM.  Outstanding teachers, administrators, and business partners will be recognized for their unwavering support of Career and Technical Education.

Royal Palm Beach High School Wildcat Speech And Debate Team Reaches State Finals - This past weekend, the Wildcat Speech and Debate team at Royal Palm Beach High School qualified a record breaking number of students to the state finals that will take place on March 5th and 6th, 2010 at the University School in Fort Lauderdale. The competition, held at Wellington High School, sent the top four in every event to State finals.

C.O.Taylor/Kirklane Student’s Art Wins Top Prize - Winning Poster Headed for State Competition - Fifth grader Calli Esposito, who’s also an Art Club member at Clifford O. Taylor/Kirklane Elementary School,  has won the Palm Beach Soil & Water Conservation District's 2010 Conservation Poster Contest.  There were over 187 entries from around the county.  She received a cash prize and tickets to the South Florida Fair.  Her work will now be entered in the State Competition to be held in August of this year.

South Tech Academy Graphic Design Students Score Big In Tech Conference Cover Design Competition - The Palm Beach School District Technology Conference announced the winners of the Tech Conference Cover Design for 2010, awarding 1st, 2nd and 3rd place to South Tech students.   Michael Cardona received $250.00 plus the Adobe Software Suite as the 1st place winner; Billy Myrtil received $100 for 2nd place, and Jose N. Mendez received $50 for 3rd place.

Bak Student Scores Big In Debate Contest - Bak Middle School of the Arts 8th Grade Forensics Club President, Carlton Bone has scored the biggest win on record yet for a middle school debate team in Palm Beach County.  On Saturday, January 23, Carlton competed at the Florida Forensic League Varsity Regional Qualifier in Wellington.

Seminole Ridge High School #1 In The World Certifying Students In The Adobe Certified Associate Exam - Seminole Ridge High School’s Digital Arts Program is number one in the world for certifying students in the new Adobe Certified Associate (ACA) exam. The school has certified over 220 students, which is sixty percent more than any other school. The Digital Arts programs at SRHS consist of Communications Technology, Digital Design, and Digital Photography.

Royal Palm Beach High School Wins National Speech And Debate Competition - Royal Palm Beach High School’s Varsity Speech and Debate Team won first place in the Duo Interpretation of Literature category at the 32nd Annual Crestian National Invitational that took place at Pine Crest Preparatory Schools in Fort Lauderdale and Boca Raton, Florida on Friday, January 15 through Sunday, January 17, 2010. The Crestian is an all-events tournament that attracts over 1,200 experienced, top-ranking competitors from all regions of the nation.

Royal Palm School Students Receive International “Yes I Can” Awards - The Council for Exceptional Children (CEC), the largest international professional organization for special educators, recognized two students from Royal Palm School in Lantana for the international "Yes I Can! Lake Worth Community High School Students Obtain EKG Certification - Eighteen of the 24 Lake Worth Community High School students who were the first from the school to take the EKG (electrocardiogram) certification exams have successfully passed! The students---who participate in the school’s Medical Magnet CHOICE program-- took the industry certification exams shortly before the end of the year.

Suncoast and Atlantic Advance to “Sweet 16” Round of International Contest;
Remain Eligible for $10,000 Grand Prize and Trip to New York City - Bickel & Brewer Foundation and New York University Sponsor Global Debate Contest - The debate teams from Suncoast Community High School and Atlantic Community High School have argued their way into the “Sweet 16” round of an international debate contest. The Bickel & Brewer/New York University International Public Policy Forum (IPPF) is the only contest that gives high school students the opportunity to participate in written and oral debates on issues of public policy. By advancing through another round in the contest, Suncoast and Atlantic are both just one step away from earning all-expenses-paid trips to the IPPF finals competition in New York City.

Palm Beach Gardens High School's Pizzazz Chorus To Perform At Carnegie HallReceives Prestigious "Featured Choir " Status - Palm Beach Gardens High School's Pizzazz Chorus has been selected by the National Youth Choir Festival as its featured choir in the 2010 National Youth Choir Festival at Carnegie Hall in New York City on April, 25, 2010. In addition to Pizzazz's feature performance, other members of the school's chorus will sing in the National Youth Chorale Program, rehearsing and performing on the famous stage with the National Youth Choir.

Teacher of the Year Honored At University of Florida Commencement - Palm Beach County Teacher of the Year, Marilyn Pedek, was honored at the University of Florida Commencement ceremony as a 2009 Distinguished Educator.  The ceremony took place in the O’Connell Center in Gainesville on December 19.  A Science teacher at Suncoast High School, Ms. Pedek said, “I am honored and excited about representing Palm Beach County as a UF Distinguished Educator.  I know I an only in this position because of the individuals who where passionate in sharing their knowledge and expertise with me.  In my life I try to model these compassionate giants who have helped me to be all that I am.”

Lake Worth High School Academic Team Brings Home Honors - Competitors Battle in Math, English, Science, Arts and Humanities - The Lake Worth High School Academic Team (A-Team) scored third place in the recent county wide academic competition.  They finished in the top half of the event after displaying their academic aptitude along with schools such as Park Vista, Spanish River, and Atlantic.  The county wide competition consists of general categories such as Math, English, Science, Arts and Humanities.

Four First Place Champions At Coral Sunset Elementary Await Confirmation Of Participation To The NBA/WNBA FIT Challenge National Finals In Dallas - On Saturday, November 12, five students from Coral Sunset Elementary School competed at the Regional Competition of the Inaugural NBA/WNBA Fit competition at Florida Atlantic University (FIU) in Miami. Outstanding Student, Adult and Senior Volunteers Named - Three Volunteers Provide Thousands of Hours of Support To Schools and Students - The 2009-2010 Palm Beach County Outstanding Student, Adult and Senior School Volunteers have been named.  Brandon Corsentino a senior at Palm Beach Central High School is the Student Volunteer of the Year, Debbie Ellman from Spanish River High School is the Adult Volunteer of the Year and Arnold Rich from Park Vista High School is the Senior Volunteer of the Year.  According to School District Volunteer Coordinator Debi Elfen, “Over 36,000 volunteers work in Palm Beach County schools supporting our goal of academic excellence.  These three outstanding individuals are shining examples of the thousands of dedicated volunteers working with our children everyday.”

Atlantic High Wins 5th Consecutive District A Team Tourney - Headed to Disney World- Atlantic Community High School's A Team won their 5th consecutive District Academic Championship Thursday (Dec. 10) morning in Boynton Beach. A Team showcases the intellectual abilities of the best and brightest of Palm Beach County high school students.  Teams of 4 students compete in a fast-paced, knowledge-based contest with a quiz-show type format.

Jupiter Elementary School to Award Six College Scholarships - At Ninth Annual WINNER Scholarships Assembly - Jan Winkler and Hermine Drezner, mentors at Jupiter Elementary, established a scholarship fund through the Education Foundation of Palm Beach County nine years ago.  Each year selected students from grades 3-5 will be awarded $1000.00 each towards a college of their choice.

National Career Academy Coalition Recognizes Three Local High Schools - The National Career Academy Coalition (NCAC) reviewers visited some of the schools in our county and conducted a very rigorous review process. As a result, four career academies at Park Vista Community High School, West Boca Raton Community High School and Seminole Ridge Community High School obtained a National Recognition from the NCAC.

Palm Springs Middle School Takes First Place in Language Arts Academic Games Tournament - The final round of the Language Arts Academic Games tournament was held last week involving hundreds of students from schools all over Palm Beach County.  They competed in Propaganda and LinguiSHTIK (a grammar game) and when all the points were added up,  first place honors went to the  team from Palm Springs Community Middle School! Team members included Jessica Stone, Roberto Vidal, Kristina Davis, Eleazar Gallardo, Alfredo Morales, Tanya Valerio, Natalie Rivero, Daniel Rojas, Ebony Lewis, MacKenzie Tejo, and Dahlia Braun.

The Education Network (T.E.N.) Wins Emmy Award - Anywhere/Anytime Science Videos Considered Outstanding - The Suncoast Chapter of The National Academy of Arts and Sciences has honored The Education Network (T.E.N.) with a 2009 Emmy award for its “Anywhere/Anytime” Science Videos.   The award was announced at the Chapter’s annual presentation on Saturday night in Orlando. The award was given for “Informational/Instructional Program:  for excellence in presentation of stories whose prime purpose is to be instructional; to teach formally or informally about a subject or subjects.”

Schools Rave About Local Companies Working With Students, Teachers - Top Community Partners To Be Recognized - Which business and community partners are making a difference for students each day? And what are the amazing things Palm Beach County schools are saying about their partners? The verdict is in, the deadline has passed and schools have praised and nominated more than one hundred local firms that they say are helping their students succeed in extraordinary ways.   One partner, Pratt Whitney Rocketdyne, a 10-year partner, is sending employees to tutor struggling students weekly to improve their reading skills. The company also funds an end of year Power To Read Student Recognition Celebration.

Glades Central Student Recognized By The Sun-Sentinel Newspaper - Louisiana Simon, a 10th grade student at Glades Central High School in Belle Glade, was recognized in the “Character Counts” section of the Sun-Sentinel newspaper. Louisiana was born in Haiti and even though she has only been in the United States for one year, she has become an example to all the students in Palm Beach County.  She has a strong work ethic and enjoys helping other kids in the English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) Program. “I help others with translation because I know and understand what they are going through. It can be hard to learn a new language as well as a new culture,” said Louisiana Simon.

12/3/09 The Foundation for Excellence in Education will honor the 2009 Excel Award winners at the Celebration of Teaching on Saturday, December 5, 2009, in Orlando, Florida. The 2009 Excel Award rewards teachers whose students made the most progress in reading or math from one year to the next according to annual standardized tests.  Students of these exceptional educators learned at least 1.5 times, or 50 percent, more than the average student, based on Florida Comprehensive Assessment Test scores for the last three consecutive years.

Students Perform Better on FCAT Math and Reading Over Last Year - OCTOBER FCAT RETAKE RESULTS FOR GRADES 10, 11, AND 12 - On December 1, 2009, the Florida Department of Education (FDOE) released the results of the October FCAT Retakes. For the School District of Palm Beach County (SDPBC), 7,856 students took the October FCAT Retake in Reading and 3,657 students in Mathematics at grades 10, 11, and 12 [1]. Across all tested grades combined, the results indicate that the percents of students passing the October FCAT Reading and Mathematics Retake were statistically higher in October 2009 than in October 2008.

12/2/09 The Santaluces Chiefs Girls Bowling Team competed at the state level recently and brought home the big prize!  The six- member team bowled traditional pin count bowling on the first day of the two-day competition, earning the 1st place in the seeding for the remainder of the tournament.  Outstanding contributions were made by sophomore, Kaitlyn Benedict with a 242 game and junior, Marissa Ferreira with a 287 high game. 
12/2/09 Atlantic Community High School, and the Palm Beach County Education Commission are proud to announce the Mary and Robert Pew Public Education Fund grant award of $40,000 to create and expand classroom libraries at the school. A major goal of this challenge grant is to provide 160 teachers with their own classroom libraries to encourage a life long love of leisure reading.
12/09 Forest Park Elementary has received the authorization to teach International Baccalaureate' Primary Years Programme (PYP) - Forest Park Elementary, along with Pahokee and Dr. Mary McLeod Bethune, is among the newest elementary schools to receive this authorization in the School District of Palm Beach County. The number of PYP schools in the District is now five including Westward Elementary and Morikami Park Elementary. The International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme is internationally recognized and ensures increased adaptability and mobility for students. The high level academic curriculum which focuses on international perspectives of learning and teaching will allow the very diverse student population at Forest Park to explore their own culture and language.
11/25/09 The 86th Annual Florida PTA Convention that took place from November 13th-15th, 2009 in Orlando, Florida honored many local PTA units in Palm Beach County. This is the largest statewide volunteer organization working exclusively on behalf of children and youth. Founded in 1921 as a branch of the 6 million members National PTA, Florida PTA is made up of 1,341 local units with more than 361,807 Florida members seeking to unite home, school and community for all children.

11/20/09 Students in grades six through eight across Palm Beach are participating in a district-wide Math Mania competition using the online math program, VmathLive. Their challenge is to answer the most math questions correctly among all the schools in the district. Prizes are awarded each week.

A student from Boca Raton Community High School has won a prestigious award from University of Cambridge International Examinations (CIE) in recognition of his outstanding performance in the June 2009 examination session. Bruno Faviero has won a Top in USA award for achieving the highest result in the country in the Cambridge International AS level Marine Science exam.  It is a terrific achievement for Bruno and the teachers at Boca High who helped make his success possible.

10/29/09 Students at Pine Jog Elementary School and Jupiter Community High School meet Discovery Education's Chief Environmentalist, conservationist and educator Philippe Cousteau when he visits the schools for interactive assemblies on Wednesday, November 4.  Cousteau's appearances are part of a series of events recognizing the district's outstanding achievement in reaching the milestone of one million digital educational videos viewed by students.

The Suncoast Chapter of  The National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences has honored The Education Network  (T.E.N.)with an Emmy nomination for its “Anywhere/Anytime” science videos. The videos were produced in conjunction with the South Florida Science Museum and the Palm Beach County School District’s Curriculum Department.   They were aimed at topics that 5th graders had difficulty grasping in traditional formats.  An independent assessment of the videos showed a 60% improvement in comprehension at every school that utilized them.

A.W. Dreyfoos School Of The Arts Student Wins State-Wide Hispanic Heritage Month Essay Contest - Madison Pazienza receives recognition from Governor Crist and a four-year college scholarship to any public state university or college in Florida - Living in a predominantly Hispanic neighborhood and passing a street daily named Ponce de Leon was the inspiration for an essay that won Madison Pazienza a four year scholarship. Pazienza, a senior majoring in visual arts at Dreyfoos School of the Arts, has been honored as a winner of the Hispanic Heritage Month Excellence in Education Award student essay contest.

The Suncoast High School Debate Club with 80 members has recently received a number of honors and awards. Suncoast Debate has earned the Leading Chapter Award in the Florida Panther District.  It’s the highest honor the National Forensic League (NFL) can bestow upon a chapter.  This year out of 2900 NFL member schools nationwide, Suncoast High School is one of only 105 to receive the award.  They will receive a commemorative plaque at the NFL national tournament.

10/9/09 Charles Wintzer, a Secondary Technology Support Technician in the Department of Safe Schools, has been awarded the The Superintendent’s Efficiency and Effectiveness Award (SEEA). SEEA is a suggestion incentive program with the goal of reducing expenses and improving district and school center operations. 
10/9/09 Pine Jog Elementary/FAU Environmental Center won two Best of 2009 Southeast Construction magazine awards- “Best Green Building” and “Judges Award”. The annual competition recognizes construction and design excellence in the four-state region that includes Florida, Georgia, North Carolina and South Carolina. Pine Jog Elementary is the first LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Certified green school in Palm Beach County and one of the first in the State of Florida.   The school has 135 acres of native Florida habitat where students can explore and learn about science. In addition, they have a 4,000 plant hydroponic garden with a cistern connection, which stores rain water and is then used to water the plants.
10/6/09 Diane Curcio-Greaves, principal of Crystal Lakes Elementary School since 2005, has been selected by the Florida School Counselor Association (FSCA) Professional Recognition Committee as the FSCA School-Based Administrator of the year for 2009.  Award criteria requires that the recipient be  a school-based administrator who has “consistently made a significant contribution to the improvement of guidance and counseling programs in the school setting.”

The Center earned the distinction for its Families Acting Collaboratively to Educate and Involve Teens (FACE IT).

Boca Student Is Winner In National Holocaust Remembrance High School Essay Contest - The Holocaust Remembrance Project is a national essay contest for high school students designed to encourage and promote the study of the Holocaust. The event, now in its 15th year, is hosted by the law firm Holland & Knight and the Holland & Knight Charitable Foundation. Holland & Knight has just announced the 2009 national winners.  Corinne Gilad is one of the third place winners for her essay entitled "Awareness." She just completed 11th grade in Sharona Kay's Holocaust Elective class at Boca Raton Community High School.

School Board To Recognize Office Depot Foundation For Numerous Contributions To Palm Beach County Students, Teachers and Schools - The Office Depot Foundation is strongly committed to the success of children, teachers and schools in Palm Beach County.  The School Board will recognize the Office Depot Foundation and its President Mary Wong at the July 15, School Board meeting.  In addition to its recent sponsorship of the William T. Dwyer Awards and support for the Education Foundation of Palm Beach County, the Office Depot Foundation donates 1,000 backpacks per year to the School District of Palm Beach County through its National Backpack Program.

District Student Wins Presidency of Largest National Student Business Organization - In late June, Mauricio Escobar climbed the steps to the stage of the National Future Business Leaders of America  (FBLA) Conference in Anaheim, California. There the Palm Beach Central student delivered a passionate and compelling campaign speech that rocked the convention of nearly 10,000 attendees and won him the presidency of the oldest and largest student business organization in the country!

South Tech Academy Student Wins Gold Medal At National SkillsUSA Competition - Matthew Vicari, recent South Tech Academy graduate and winner of the Pat Oliphant award, scored big as Florida’s representative in the National SkillsUSA Internetworking Competition in Kansas City last week.  The SkillsUSA Internetworking competition is considered one of the most challenging competitions conducted by Cisco Systems, Inc. with Fluke Networks, Panduit. SIGMAnet, Inc. and NDG.
