Starting May 11, the Class of 2016 begins graduating from the School District of Palm Beach County. Ceremonies are held for graduates of 32 schools and academies across Palm Beach County. The Palm Beach County School District’s television station will once again stream LIVE coverage of 30 graduations ceremonies. This year, 27 of the graduations will be Open and Closed captioned for the deaf and hard of hearing viewers for the first hour. This will cover all the speeches from each graduation.
Elementary schools across the School District of Palm Beach County host Kindergarten Round Ups to welcome families to visit the campuses, get acquainted with their school and teachers, and get students and parents excited about all of the wonderful things that they have to look forward to as they approach this milestone. During round ups, school administrators will offer an orientation about the school, explain regulations such as dress codes, and provide information about activities on campus. Students and parents will be given tours of the classrooms and be able to ask questions about the transition to elementary school.
Florida Standards Assessment (FSA) in Palm Beach County schools begins in April and is scheduled to run through May 20th. According to the FSA website, “The Florida Standards were designed to set higher expectations for students to encourage deeper learning on fewer topics and requiring greater critical thinking, reasoning and problem solving.” Here are some resources to help parents better understand the assessments and help prepare their students.
