About ABE

Adult Basic Education (ABE) may provide some or all of the following activities.

  • Instruction in the basic skills of reading, writing, and mathematics

  • Instruction in preparing to take the General Educational Development (GED) test

  • Basic skills study through preparation for citizenship testing

  • English Literacy (English as a Second Language) and English Literacy/Civics

  • Workplace Literacy

The Mission of ABE

ABE provides instruction in the basic skills of reading, writing, and mathematics to adult learners in order to prepare them for transitioning into the labor market or higher academic or vocational training.

ABE provides basic literacy and life skills for adults who perform at or below the eighth grade level.

ABE: “A Better Education”

ABE programs provide instruction in basic academic skills and GED preparation. Adult education classes will help you improve your reading, writing and math skills to improve your quality of life and help you advance in your education or occupation.
