Register for ESOL Classes

Where can a student register for adult ESOL classes?

The program offers classes all year. Adult ESOL programs are offered in twenty-four community schools, the Adult Education Center, and several off campus sites. Please refer to the Palm Beach Educator to find a school that is convenient and a time that you would be able to attend classes. For a list of schools offering ESOL classes by city/town, click here. At most sites, students can begin classes whenever they are ready. It is encouraged that attendance should be on a regular basis in order to learn English faster

Each adult school will inform new students about their program. A new student will be required to fill out a registration form. Students will need to bring several documents including their address and phone number at this time in order to complete the registration form. Click here to learn more about the new residency and tuition requirements for adult students.

At the time of registration students will be required to take a language assessment to determine placement in the correct class level. This assessment will be a Comprehensive Adult Student Assessment System (CASAS)test. There will be both a reading and listening assessment.

Why take a CASAS assessment?

CASAS tests are given for two reasons. The pretest helps place students in the correct learning level. The post-test measures how much English students have learned and when it is time for them to advance to the next level.

What is important when taking the CASAS tests?

  1. Listen carefully to all the instructions before starting the test.

  2. Students may ask questions about how to take the test, but not about the information in the test.

  3. Students should do their own work! The goal of the test is to find out how much English you know, not the student sitting next to you.

  4. Relax, and answer the questions the best you can.
