District's Green Team
In 2007, the School District of Palm Beach County formed an multi-department advisory committee called the "Green Team".
Representation
The Team is currently comprised of representatives from both sides of the house – facilities and curriculum - and from agencies outside the District that help further our environmental goals (e.g., Florida Power & Light, SP Recycling, the Solid Waste Authority). Currently, we have representatives from Facilities Services, School Food Service, IT, Transportation, Purchasing, Program Management, Building, Planning, and Environmental. On the curriculum side, we have representation from the Science Department, but would like more participation from other disciplines. We also have representatives from school administration (principals) and parents/PTOs. We hope to add several high school students to the Team in the coming months. The team meets quarterly for approximately 1.5 hours.
Mission and Objectives
The mission of the District's green team is to act in an advisory role to the Board and others on topics related to environmental sustainability. The Team will research, develop and recommend policies, procedures, initiatives, activities, etc. that serve to lighten the District’s environmental footprint; enhance its environmental performance; integrate environmental/conservation education and student participation; and create mechanisms for continued improvement.
Suggestions for Future Topics of Discussion
If you have suggestions for the Green Team to consider in the future, please e-mail Christina Crespo, the Green Team Chairperson.
