                                                     Roles

The Facilities Services Department is funded by the School Board to accomplish specified maintenance and repair of the existing district facilities throughout the county in support of the educational mission.  To best accomplish the District’s goals, the Department is aligned into nine service areas.  These include the: (1) Building Envelope Maintenance Program Section, (2) Commissioning/ Quality Assurance Section, (3) Custodial Section, (4) Central Services Section (Fire Alarm/ Intercom/ Sports Lighting/ Roofing/ Sheet Metal and Generators), (5) Grounds Section, (6) Logistics Section (Material Inventory), (7) Mechanical Section (HVAC), (8) Capital Projects Section and (9) Zone Team Sections.  It is through this alignment and on-going communications with the schools that we provide support services to the students of Palm Beach County.

Normal Working Hours

The normal working hours for Facilities Services are 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM, Monday through Friday.  During Spring and Summer Breaks working hours are 6:00 AM - 4:30 PM.  For emergency repair work after hours, please call School Police and a qualified maintenance technician can be dispatched pursuant to work prioritization.

Building Envelope Maintenance Program

(BEMP) Section

Addresses issues pertaining to the roof, windows and doors of a building to ensure the facility is weather tight and without water intrusion.   School exteriors are waterproofed on a periodic schedule.  Responds to school requests for roofing support.

Central Services

(Fire Alarm/ Intercom/ Sports Lighting/ Sheet Metal and Generators)

Responds to school requests for all electrical issues and ower requirements.  Provides fire alarm, intercom, sheet metal, welding, generator and boiler support as per code requirements.

 

Commissioning/ Quality Assurance Section

On-going commissioning activities and LEED for existing buildings, ensures mechanical systems are operating according to manufacturers specifications.  Conducts school warranty site visits.

Custodial

Custodial Section

Provides recommendations to Principals regarding custodial functions at District facilities, to include:  development of cleaning plans for schools, and facilities; standardization of cleaning products for the District.   Provides team cleaning supervisory guidance to school centers with dedicated Custodial Coordinators.

 

Grounds Section

Manages District vendors with grounds maintenance contracts.  Provides school center principals and athletic directors and with the recommended Turf Management Schedule. Prepares and submits a 5-year capital budget work program on athletic fields, tracks and tennis courts. Picks up bulk trash and old furniture for transport to the dump.  Provides landscape support, tree trimming and removal, and irrigation repairs. Provides repairs to playgrounds and pest control services.

Logistics

Logistics Section

Manages all materials needed for Facilities Services work orders.

 

Mechanical Section

Responds to school requests for support services for mechanical problems pertaining to air conditioning and plumbing services.

Capital Projects Section

Administers the design and construction of new, modernized, and/or replacement schools, additions, and other capital improvements of existing facilities.  Executes the Planning Department's schedule of relocation and placement of new and existing portable classrooms throughout the District.

 

Zone Team Section

Provides dedicated work teams rotating throughout schools on a scheduled basis to correct code violations and Comprehensive Safety Inspection Report (CSIR) citations, in addition to repairs to existing systems.  Responds to school requests for lock and window, plastering, and carpenter support.
