About Facilities
Who Is FACMAN?
FACMAN is not a who, but a what. FACMAN is the abbreviation for FACilities MANagement.
The Facilities Management Division is made up of seven departments: Planning, Real Estate, Project Controls, Program Management, Building Department, Facilities Services and the Environmental Control Office. The division is responsible for the planning, design, construction, inspection and maintenance of all School District facilities. This includes 166 schools and 20 ancillary facilities that include administrative offices, maintenance shops, warehouses and transportation compounds. The division is not directly responsible for school-based custodians who report to the principals; however, the division provides custodial training and assistance.
There are more than 700 people in these departments; most are tradesmen and women who keep our schools in tip-top shape. The head of the Facilities Management Division is the Chief of Facilities Management (CFM) and each department is headed by a Director.
FACMAN staff include AICP members, registered architects, professional engineers, certified general contractors, certified inspectors, licensed plumbers, electricians, and other professionals. All staff receives continuing education through in-house seminars, classes and/or conferences. We have a number of people on our staff who have worked for the Florida Department of Education, industry leading construction managers and architectural firms, and other state and county offices in similar roles.
There are several other departments that while they are not directly within the Division of Facilities Management, are an essential part of what we do. This includes Capital Projects (Finance), Construction Purchasing and Legal Services. These departments find the money, pay the bills, solicit bids and proposals and ensure we conduct business in accordance with the legal requirements of the State of Florida.
We also have close relationships with our business partners who include the best architects, engineers, contractors, outside counsel, appraisers, surveyors, and other professionals that help us achieve our mission for the benefit of the children of Palm Beach County. We are only as good as our weakest link and we are determined to make all of our links as strong as steel.
