Best Practices Summit for School Building 2006! posted 6/12/06 The School District of Palm Beach County (SDPBC) is one of the nation’s most active construction owners. It is the 11th largest school district in the country and builds or rebuilds an average of twelve schools per year. Its average annual construction budget is $300 - $500 million and a reduction in activity is not in sight. The SDPBC uses several methods to collect and disseminate lessons learned and best practices. One that produces a large number of number of recommendations is an annual workshop that takes place each fall. This paper highlights some of the best lessons developed at the workshops by more than 400 people involved with the construction of over 50 major school projects over the past four years. |

2006 Golf Outing Was a Great Success! posted 6/12/06 This year the Facilities Management Division’s Golf Outing was able to nearly fill two golf courses with supporters of the Summer High School Student Internship Program. Many corporate sponsorships and individual golf registrations contributed to collect more than $75,000 for the Outing. This enabled the school district to hire 24 interns for full-time employment. These high school students are working and getting practical experience in a variety of fields from real estate to maintenance. It is an aspiration of the program to infuse interest in construction industry careers for as many youths as possible. We proudly salute our wonderful sponsors! Information about the Golf Outing and student internships is available by contacting Dr. George Solli at solli@palmbeach.k12.fl.us or (561) 434-8990.
