| Choice with Transportation |
When a Title I school does not meet Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) for three (3) or more consecutive years it must offer students the choice to attend another school. The District identifies at least two transfer schools for each SINI school that offers NCLB Choice with Transportation (CWT). In accordance with the law, the District does not offer transfer to receiving schools that are considered to be SINI. In addition, the District strives to provide each student with the resources needed to accommodate the learning process at the receiving school. Careful consideration is given to the resources available at the receiving schools, including classroom facilities, teachers, facilitators, special education services, laboratories, media centers, technology, food service, textbooks, etc. Each spring, schools hold meetings to explain NCLB Options and AYP. Parents are encouraged to attend the meeting and/or visit the NCLB Choice website to learn more about CWT. In late April, information packets and applications are sent home with each student in eligible schools. Transfer school assignments are sent out in the summer. Application and acceptance deadlines are well-publicized. Students who transfer under NCLB are eligible for District-provided transportation to and from the receiving school. However, bus stops may be in a centralized location and may be different than the neighborhood school’s bus stops.
