I completed the application, now what do I do?
If selected you will be contacted by a Human Resources Technician and given what steps you are required to follow next. Please DO NOT contact the technician. This information is also on the Become a Substitute website.
As a Substitute Applicant, when do I get Fingerprinted and Drug Tested?
If selected you will receive a message via email or by phone from a Human Resources Technician stating that you have been conditionally cleared for subbing. You will need the Job Offer letter for fingerprinting and the drug test. This letter is available in Recruitment and Retention, A-132. Fingerprints and drug test MUST BE completed prior to attending Substitute Orientation.
How do I register so I can begin to use the Sub Locator?
You must register before you can use the Sub Locator. Call the Sub Locator number (561) 594-1116. You will be prompted to enter your Employee ID number (access ID). Then the recording will ask you to enter your PIN number. When you first register, your PIN number is the same as your Employee ID number. Record your name, verify your phone number and then it will prompt you to create you own PIN number. The PIN number CANNOT begin with a (0) zero and must be at least 5 digits.
I forgot my pin number to access the Sub Locator. How do I retrieve it?
From the home page of the Sub Locator click on the link "Forgot your PIN?". The PIN number will be sent to you on the email that is on your profile.
How do I delete/add to my locations and subject areas?
You cannot change your own locations and subject areas. The sub office must do that for you. Please submit the changes you want to the sub office in writing and they will make those changes for you.
I need to cancel a job I accepted, what are the steps?
Go into the Sub Locator, go to your calendar, click on the job number and the job details will come up and give you the option of cancelling the job. You will need to enter a reason. Then call the school and inform them of the cancellation, this way they know the Sub Locator is trying to get someone else.
Can I update the contact phone number on the Sub Locator?
Yes, this you can update yourself, as well as your daily availability. Do not enter dashes. If it is a long distance number to West Palm Beach, please enter "1", the area code and 7 digit number (e.g. 15556667777). If it is not a long distance number, only enter the 7 digit phone number (e.g. 6667777).
What are the requirements to stay an active Substitute Teacher?
Substitutes are required to sub one day each semester to stay active. First semester is from August thru the Winter Holiday break (December) and 2nd semester is from January thru the last day of school (June).
Are substitutes, tutors, or other temporary positions offered benefits?
No, only regular employees are offered benefits.
