Athletics Department  

The Department of Athletics manages certification for teacher and non-teacher school physical education coaches. The requirements vary slightly between the two groups, but must be adhered to.  The State of Florida requires all coaches to have either a teacher certificate or a coaching certificate when working with students.

 

  • Requirements for Teacher Certified Coaches
    • Yearly - CPR with AED
    • Bi-Annual - First Aid
    • Note: The classroom and hands-on training is done by Life Safety Solutions Paramedics
    • Renewals require a 1 hour review and a hands-on section

  • Requirements for Non-Teacher Coaches
    • Complete the Teacher Certified Coach requirements
    • Coaching Certificate from the State of Florida
      • Each non-teacher coach can obtain a 3 year temporary certificate while enrolled in the courses required for a permenant 5 year certificate
      • To get a permenant certificate, the temporary teaching coach must complete 3 college level 60 point courses:
        • Coaching Theory
        • Care and Prevention of Athletic Injury
        • Theory and Practice of Coaching a Specific Sport
        • Note: A college transcript of any completed courses above can be submitted
