There are over 200,000 children injured on playgrounds each year in the United States. That is 16,666 per month, 555 per day or 9 per hour. Of these, there are about 15 deaths per year. Approximately 47% of all student accidents occurred at elementary school playgrounds.
The types of injuries that occur on playgrounds are:
1. Falls from equipment
2. Trips and falls
3. Running into equipment

Inspections
Each playground should be inspected on a monthly basis in accordance with District Policy 2.382 Safety Awareness and Safety Committees.Please use form PBSD 1363 as a worksheet when conducting your inspection. The information must be entered into PeopleSoft to document that your inspection has been completed. Instructions for completing form PBSD 1363 can be found by clicking here. In the event you do not have PeopleSoft access your Principal can obtain access for you by completing form PBSD 2308 or another staff member, with access, can do the entering of information. Work Orders should be submitted to Facility Services for each deficiency noted in the survey.
The District Risk and Safety Department is charged with conducting a thorough safety inspection of each playground on an annual basis. This inspection will be conducted by or under the supervision of a Certified Playground Inspector
