The Department of Safe Schools is responsible for the development and implementation of the Palm Beach County Efficacy in the Community: Step Up For Proficiency Campaign Training.  The community-wide campaign training effort is instrumental in supporting schools in the development of all children to assist them in achieving both academic and character proficiency.

The Step Up For Proficiency Campaign Training efforts support all schools in providing a series of efficacy school-home-community involvement trainings to help all adults who have contact with children.  These training sessions provide schools, parents, and community agencies with strategies to further develop adults along with children and adolescents in academics (intellect) and in character (emotional and social confidence) development. The long-term goal for all stakeholders is to become productive citizens and contributing members in schools, work places, and local communities in which they live.

Step Up for Proficiency “Efficacy” Trainings

What

Step Up For Proficiency is a community-wide effort to move all children to proficiency.  We want children to be in positions to lead quality lives that are filled with meaning as well as accomplishment.  We regard development of both intellect (academic proficiency) and character as a prime means to that end.

Why

Preparing children for the world is the responsibility of the entire community.  We can no longer place all the responsibility for our children’s education on one specific area.  Parents, educators, and community leaders must work together to share responsibility and accountability for developing our children.

Who

All adults have the capability to direct the effective effort of children. Effective effort has tremendous impact on determining which children learn (GET BETTER), grow (GET STRONGER) and develop (GET SMARTER).

Where

Training and support are provided at K-12 school system sites, local city communities, youth program agencies, faith-based community organizations, non-profit organizations, local businesses, colleges/universities, juvenile justice counseling programs, coaching and recreational leagues, governmental agencies, grant agencies, foster care/adoption agencies, and any forum supporting adults who care for kids.

How

We can change our beliefs regarding intelligence and character. Proficiency is something all children can achieve in academics and in character.  All adults must work together by using consistent efficacy practices and concrete strategies through a proven method—the Self-Directed Improvement System. The Department of Safe Schools, along with certified community leaders, can provide on-site and off-site Efficacy Training sessions at no cost.
