PASS/CompassLearning Program

The PASS/CompassLearning Program is an academic remediation program available for middle school students who are failing or in danger of failing a core subject. The program is available at all the traditional middle schools in the District. Each school selects a PASS/CompassLearning Coordinator who is responsible for the operation of the program and for notifying the parents. The program may operate before school and/or after school and/or Saturdays. Each school determines its model and is responsible to notify parents if their student qualifies for the PASS/CompassLearning Program. Most often, the program begins after the first quarter of the school year until the end of the year.

The PASS/CompassLearning Program uses a computer competency-based program called CompassLearning Odyssey. This is the primary curriculum used for middle school core course recovery. Grades are awarded according to the curriculum mastered. The purpose of the PASS/CompassLearning Program is to remediate students failing a course or to place over age students in a class to master course work to proceed to the next grade level. Students will attend and continue to work at their own pace until they have proven mastery of the course content. The PASS/CompassLearning Program provides students with the opportunity to have:

  • additional time to complete the expected course of study
  • assistance in completion of the course requirements necessary for promotion
  • remediation of academic skills, as necessary
