Summer School/Extended School Year
Palm Beach County School District’s Summer School/Extended School Year program serves elementary, middle, and high school students for the purpose of academic remediation and grade promotion, as well as providing an extended school year opportunity for Exceptional Student Education (ESE) students. ESE students are provided the academic setting and opportunity to continue their education without academic interruption by attending school all year long.
Third Grade Summer Reading Academy (SRA) is provided to students based upon their level of performance on the Grade 3 FCAT Reading Sunshine State Standards. Parents are notified by the school if their child qualifies for this Academy.
The curriculum used at the high school and middle school level is an academic online computer competency-based program. The technological instruction provided by these programs includes a variety of assessment techniques that address the various learning styles and intelligence types. Online computer course learning enables students to assume an increasing responsibility for their own learning.
Summer school location sites change from year to year on a rotating format. Programs are combined on campuses to adhere to budgetary needs. Transportation is provided to qualifying students. Parents of qualifying students for summer school will be contacted by individual schools.
Dates and locations will be available in 2011.
