A Resource for Administrators
Scholastic Reading Inventory (SRI) Interactive
The SRI is an interactive reading comprehension test that provides students’ reading levels, reported in Lexile® measures. Test results are automatically generated and a variety of reports are available to educators and students to monitor student’s reading progress and make data-driven decisions.
As an instructional tool, SRI generates a Lexile® score that: identifies what level of text a student is able to comprehend with 75% accuracy matches students to text that is written at a level they can comprehend provides information that can be used to understand student performance on FCAT at any grade level enables students to set growth goals relative to their prior achievement assists schools in monitoring student performance in reading.
The SRI is administered to SDPBC students three times a year. After test administration, test scores should be reviewed with individual students to discuss strengths and weaknesses, set goals, and help students choose books that are within their independent reading level.
The Lexile® measure cut scores that align to FCAT Achievement Level 3 for each grade are as follows:*
The Division of Quality Assurance has developed a Pupil Progression Alignment Table that shows the cut scores that align to all the FCAT Achievement Levels. *
Grade Column: The first column shows the student’s current grade level.
Student Performance Column: The student performance column shows each FCAT achievement level (1-5) for each grade.
FCAT Reading DSS Column: This column shows the FCAT SSS Developmental Scale Score for reading that corresponds to each achievement level. The state uses this score to calculate student gains from year to year. The score ranges from 86-3000.
SRI-I Fall Lexile Column: This column shows the SRI-I fall Lexile that corresponds to each achievement level. If a student reads at this level in the fall, he should be able to pass the FCAT at the corresponding achievement level after instruction, in the spring.
SRI-I Spring Lexile Column: This column shows the SRI-I spring Lexile that corresponds to each achievement level.
*Upon the Florida School Board of Education’s approval of the new Achievement Level Developmental Scale Scores (DSS), the Division of Quality Assurance will update the Lexile® measure cut scores, Pupil Progression Alignment Table, Setting Growth Goals Worksheet, and the Monitoring Reading Performance Graph.
Along with the Pupil Progression Alignment Chart, the SDPBC has created a worksheet and chart that allows students to set their individual growth goals based on one-year’s growth and two-year’s growth in Lexile® measures.
In the Setting Lexile® Growth Goals Worksheet, students: locate the row that contains their individual fall Lexile® score in the column that says 'My Lexile Score is Between...', and then write their Lexile® score in the area next to the box containing their score.
To compute their growth goals, students will need to work only with the numbers in the row that contain their Lexile®.
To compute their individual 1 Year’s Growth Goal, add the number in the 'Number of Points Needed to Show 1 Year Growth’ box to their individual Lexile® and write the sum in the box under the 1 Year Growth Goal column.
To compute their individual 2 Year’s Growth Goal, add the number contained in the 'Additional Points Needed to Show 2 Years Growth' box to their 1 Year Growth Goal and write the sum on the line in the last column.
The Monitoring Reading Performance Graph is used to plot 1 and 2 Year’s Growth Goals.
