6th Grade
Omni Middle School 6th Grade Elective Course Descriptions
Art
This course provides students with experiences in artistic expression through the use of two-
dimensional and three-dimensional media, tools, and techniques.
Beginning Band
Students will receive beginning instructions on brass, woodwind and percussion instruments.
Students must have an instrument to participate. Instrument rental is available from local music
stores. A limited supply of instruments is available from rental from the school. No previous musical experience is required. See Band letter for more information.
Business KeyboardingThis course explores careers in the Business Management and Administration. It includes instruction in introductory keyboarding, introductory word processing, introductory electronic presentation, introductory computer hardware, introductory Internet, and skills for business applications.
Computer Science
The study of computers and computing concepts, hardware and software designs, applications,
networking, the Internet, as well as their impact on society.
Drama
This course is designed for the beginning actress/actor and covers topics such as radio plays,
improvisation, character analysis and techniques of memorization. -

Art
This course provides students with experiences in artistic expression through the use of two-dimensional and three-dimensional media, tools, and techniques.

Students will receive continued instruction on band instruments. Students who have completed Band 1 are eligible for this class with Band Director recommendation.
Band 3 (symphonic)
Students will receive continued instruction on band instruments. Students who have completed Band 1 are eligible for this class with Band Director recommendation.
Computer Science
The study of computers and computing concepts, hardware and software designs, applications, networking, the Internet, as well as their impact on society.
Drama
This course is designed for performers who want to learn more specifics in theater topics such as costume, make-up and set design, script writing and analysis of mysteries.
Exploratory Spanish
In this beginner course students will develop a foundation for reading and writing in Spanish through a
linguistic, communicative and cultural approach.
Yearbook/Journalism *
This course provides students with instruction and experience in producing the school yearbook. It can include the skills of gathering, organizing, drafting and editing information needed for yearbook production.

Multicultural Studies & Holocaust Studies (High School Credit Course) *
Multicultural Studies will focus on the chronological developments of multicultural and multiethnic groups in the United States. Holocaust studies help students understand the roots and ramifications of prejudice, discrimination and stereotyping in society and the importance of establishing intercultural dialogue in a multicultural world.
Spanish 1 (High School Credit Course) *
This course is designed to develop communication, reading, writing, and grammar in Spanish.
