Current Choice and In-House Academy Students Currently Participating in a Program at their Current School
Question: My student is a current 9th grader and was assigned to a Choice or In-house program at the current zoned school. Can my student remain at the current zoned school to continue in the Choice or In-house program?
Answer: Yes. Current 9th grade Choice or In-House program students may remain at the current school for the 2023-2024 school year if participating in a Choice or In-house program since (at least) the start of the 2022-2023 school year. The student must remain enrolled in the program and adhere to all Choice contract expectations. If the student exits the program, voluntarily or involuntarily, the student must attend the new zoned school, with one exception: 12th grade students whose new SAC school is Dr. Joaquín García High School must remain at the previously zoned high school for the 2023-2024 school year as there will not be a senior class for the 2023-2024 school year at Dr. Joaquín García High School.
New Choice Applicants for the 2023-2024 School Year:
The programs being offered at Dr. Joaquín García High School will be considered "in-house" programs when it opens in August 2023. An "In-House" program is offered only to students residing in a designated attendance zone. At this time, families are not able to apply for any program at the school since the school is not offering seats to out-of-boundary applicants for the 2023-2024 school year. School staff will communicate with newly zoned families with information about their program offerings and options on how to elect to participate. For additional information regarding the Choice application and late application deadline dates, visit mypbchoiceapp.com. Families may submit a late application for a Choice or In-House program based on their current address and current zoned school for the 2023-2024 school year to any eligible school.
Question: My school zoning changed as a result of the boundary change. I applied to and was accepted into a Choice program at my current school for the 2023-2024. Does the Boundary Change affect me?

You may also decline your seat offer to attend your newly zoned High School (with the exception of 12th grade at Dr. Joaquín García High School, as they are only accepting grades 9-11 during the 2023-2024 school year).
