Dress Code Policy (SDPBC Policy 5.182) Guidelines
We want to ensure a positive and focused learning environment for all students at Banyan Creek Elementary. To achieve this, we kindly request your cooperation in adhering to our dress code policy, which is designed to promote a respectful and distraction-free atmosphere. Please take note of the following guidelines:
General Dress Code Guidelines:
- Modesty: Students are required to dress modestly, covering cleavage and midriffs, with no visible undergarments.
- Length of Bottoms: Shorts, skirts, and dresses must be no shorter than four (4) inches above the knee.
- Holes in Pants: Holes in pants are allowed only at or below the knee.
- Waist Level: Pants, shorts, and skirts must be worn at the waist.
- Footwear: Shoes must be worn at all times for safety and hygiene.
- Head Coverings: Heads must be uncovered, except for health or religious reasons. Bandanas, hats, wraps, scarves, doo-rags, wave caps, hoods, etc., are not permitted.
- Testing Days: Students must adhere to the dress code on testing days, including FSA, EOC, PERT, AICE, AP, and IB exams.
Unacceptable Attire:
- Attire with crude, vulgar, profane, or sexually explicit language or images is prohibited.
- Attire that promotes illegal or violent conduct, such as gang symbols, weapons, drugs, alcohol, tobacco, or threats, is not allowed.
- Clothing associated with discrimination based on age, color, handicap, national origin, sexual orientation, marital status, race, religion, or sex is prohibited.
- Undergarments such as camisoles, bralettes, boxer shorts, or sleepwear are not to be worn as outer garments.
- Clothing that is sexually suggestive or revealing, including midriff exposure, undergarment exposure, plunging necklines, muscle tops, backless clothing, or see-through materials, is not permitted.
- Weapons-Like Attire: Attire that resembles a weapon, like steel-toed shoes, long chains, studded accessories, spikes, or any other items deemed inappropriate, is not allowed.
- Clothing that causes excessive maintenance problems for school property, like cleats that damage floors or rivets that scratch furniture, should not be worn.
- Attire that creates disorder, distraction, safety hazards, or health hazards in the classroom or school environment is not permitted.
- Jewelry Safety: Jewelry worn in a manner that poses safety hazards or causes disruptions, such as hanging chains, is prohibited.
- Inadequate Footwear: Footwear that doesn't provide adequate protection or hygiene is not allowed.
Students are expected to maintain personal cleanliness, grooming, and neatness of dress that does not disrupt the classroom environment. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation in helping us create a conducive learning environment for all students.
