Palm Beach County Schools March to the Top at State Marching Band Championships

Palm Beach County Schools March to the Top at State Marching Band Championships
The School District of Palm Beach County

Palm Beach Lakes Community High School is the State Champion in the Traditional Marching Band Class AA division.

This is the sixth year in a row the team has finished in first place at the Florida Marching Band Championship (FMBC). Each year, thousands of students across Florida perform and compete for rankings and the title of State Champion during the Florida Marching Band Championship season. This year’s State Championship event was held at Florida International University.

Other Palm Beach County District-operated schools placed in the top 10 of their respective divisions in the competition, and a teacher received an individual honor from the FMBC:

  • Boca Raton Community High School – second place, Class 2A silver medal and award for Best Percussion.
  • John I. Leonard High School – third place, Class 2A bronze medal and award for Best Music.
  • Seminole Ridge Community High School – fourth place, Class 2A.
  • Palm Beach Central High School – second place, Class 3A silver medal, in addition to awards for Best Music and Best Color Guard.
  • Lake Worth Community High School – ninth place, Class 3A.
  • Park Vista Community High School – third place, Class 4A bronze medal.
  • Dr. Joaquín García High School – ninth place, Class 4A.
  • Jupiter Community High School – second place, Class 5A silver medal.
  • Milton Joselyn, Band Director at John I. Leonard High – inducted into the FMBC Hall of Fame.

The Florida Marching Band Championships was established in 1997 as the Florida Marching Band Coalition, the vision of founder Jon Kersten and his family. The organization was created to provide a first-class, consistent, and engaging competitive experience for Florida’s high school marching bands.

Thank you to voters and taxpayers for supporting for music and arts education through the 2022 School Referendum.
