The School District of Palm Beach County

The School District of Palm Beach County has once again struck a chord of excellence, securing the prestigious Best Communities for Music Education designation from the National Association of Music Merchants (NAMM Foundation)

Palm Beach County’s public schools stand out for unwavering commitment to student artistry. This year marks a landmark 10th consecutive year of national recognition, reinforcing the School District’s standing as a leader in fostering supportive and creative environments where every student can succeed. This decade of excellence serves as both a reflection of past achievements and a promise to future students that their creative pursuits will always have a path to grow in the classroom.

"Ten years of national recognition doesn’t happen by chance," said Cleve Maloon, K-12 Arts Education Program Planner. "It’s the result of educators who go above and beyond for their students, thoughtful leadership, and strong community partnerships. I’m incredibly proud that our district continues to elevate music education, ensuring every child has access to high-quality, inspiring programs that nurture creativity and confidence."

The award recognizes an exceptionally high commitment to music education, treating it as a fundamental pillar of a well-rounded curriculum. This dedication is apparent in the District’s standard of staffing a music teacher at every elementary school, ensuring that the musical journey begins at the earliest stages of a student's development.

Earning this distinction is no small feat. The District underwent a rigorous, detailed review process that covered funding, graduation requirements, student participation, instructional time, and facilities. Every response was carefully verified by the research team at the NAMM Foundation to make sure music programs across the District meet the highest national standards for both school-based and community music initiatives.

Local Palm Beach County voters made this success possible and helped support arts instruction in the District by funding more than 750 school fine arts, choice, and career academy positions through a special property tax referendum in 2018. Voters renewed their support for the referendum in 2022 for another four years, ensuring the continuation of school fine arts programs in the District.
