Two District Campuses Named ECTAC Exceeding Expectations Schools

Cypress Trails Elementary School and Plumosa School of the Arts were named Exceeding Expectations Award Schools for 2025 by the East Coast Technical Assistance Center (ECTAC).

Schools receive the award based on their success in the areas of achievement, learning gains, accomplishments in Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) Student Groups/Subgroups, and the percentage of Economically Disadvantaged Students.

"We are so proud of this recognition and it showcases the dedication that our teachers, staff, and families have to help all students reach their fullest potential,” said Bruce Saulter, the Principal of Cypress Trails Elementary. “It starts with building a positive school culture that supports students while pushing them to succeed with high expectations and systems to support them along the way. One key to our success is the house system at our school and how it has provided opportunities for students to feel a sense of belonging and empower them to be successful!"

"Being named an Exceeding Expectations school is a testament to the relentless dedication of our staff, students, and families who give 100% every single day. At Plumosa, our philosophy is to keep going, keep growing: stronger together, smarter and brighter as Plumosa Stars,” said Ronda Smith, the Principal at Plumosa. “Our school culture has transformed into one where every student believes they can succeed, and every staff member is committed to making that success a reality. This achievement reflects our shared belief that excellence is not just a goal, it’s our standard."

In 2012, ECTAC launched the Exceeding Expectations Project that identifies high-poverty schools demonstrating exceptional progress in enhancing achievement for all students.

ECTAC used 2024 School Grade Data to identify eligible Award Schools. Out of 3,457 schools, 43 schools met the initial criteria established by ECTAC and the Exceeding Expectations Volunteer Criteria Development Committee. Alongside the quantitative data, schools submitted a School Success Story Presentation Application which provides an overall picture of the school’s accomplishments.

Cypress Trails Elementary and Plumosa School of the Arts will represent the District at the Exceeding Expectations Conference in Orlando from June 18-20, 2025. The professional learning event includes general sessions with keynote speakers, sessions with presentations and panels, networking opportunities, and a recognition luncheon.
