Olympic Heights JROTC Earns Elite Designation, Opening Doors to Military Academies

Your Gateway to Military Academies: Olympic Heights HS JROTC Earns Elite Naval Honor Designation
The School District of Palm Beach County

Olympic Heights Community High School in Boca Raton has earned a repeated prestigious designation that empowers its Marine Corps Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (MCJROTC) instructors to nominate qualified cadets to service academies such as West Point and the U.S. Naval Academy, allowing students to receive a nomination typically granted by a member of Congress. The Olympic Heights Marine Corps JROTC is one of only two programs in the southeast to receive this elite honor.

The designation is reserved for 20% or fewer of MCJROTC units nationwide, evaluated through a rigorous competitive process that assesses overall academic performance, citizenship, drill execution, and physical fitness. Highlighting the unit's extraordinary dedication to community impact, Olympic Heights cadets averaged 5,500 community service hours, outperforming significantly larger regional programs.

Securing this elite recognition for the second time in three years highlights the School District of Palm Beach County’s unwavering commitment to fostering national-caliber leadership environments, making it the premier choice for local families seeking top-tier educational opportunities.

The selection of Olympic Heights as a Naval Honor School places its 120-cadet unit in an elite class. While cadets can still pursue congressional nominations, the instructor's direct nomination offers a pathway in the highly competitive military academy admissions process.

“We've achieved such a major goal and milestone, and I'm really proud of that,” said second-year Cadet Daniel Yakubov, who aspires to attend the Air Force Academy or Naval Academy to become a fighter pilot. "Our program offers a lot of opportunities, and most of our cadets here present strong leadership.”

"(JROTC prepares students for) whatever their next chapter is,” Master Sergeant Byron explained. “So if they want to go to college, then our goal is to try to get them ready for college. If their goal is to join the military, then we want them to pick the branch based on the occupational specialty that they're interested in.”
