Volunteer & Business Partners Awards Breakfast
The School District of Palm Beach County honors its 40, 000 Volunteers and 1,200 Business Partners each school year for their extraordinary support of students, teachers, and schools at its Annual Outstanding Volunteers and Business Partners Breakfast. Approximately six hundred (600) people including school administrators, teachers, community leaders, business partners/volunteers, Superintendent, School Board members, School Advisory Council members, and community involvement coordinators, attend the recognition event. The School District of Palm Beach County welcomes over 800 new teachers every August at their conference-style Teacher Fest event. Teacher Fest is an orientation for new teachers and offers an opportunity for business and community members to welcome new teachers to the greater West Palm Beach area.
Principal Leadership Academies
Principal Leadership Academies provide district principals and assistant principals with high quality professional growth that support increases in student achievement in alignment with district, state, and national standards. The district Department of Professional Development conducts monthly Principal Leadership Academies throughout the school year starting September through June.
Teach Palm Beach Teacher Recruitment Fair
The School District of Palm Beach County host its Teacher Recruitment Fair each year to hire a diverse highly qualified instructional staff to provide a world-class education for students in Palm Beach County. The School District hires over 1000 teachers a year. During past recruitment fairs, there has been more than 800 candidates and 200 plus jobs offered.
African, African American, Latino, & Gender Studies Summer Institutes
The Office of African, African American, Latino, & Gender Studies conducts two summer institutes every year which provides professional development to teachers, administrators, and community that would allow them to better meet the needs of African American and Latino Students. The Latino Studies Summer Institutes will be held on June 12th and 13th. The African and African American Studies Summer Institutes will be held on June 18th, 19th, and 20th. Renown scholars from all over the nation will present topics that focus on cultural competency, equability, and individualized instruction. These annual events attract up to 500 participants from various schools in the Palm Beach County School District.
Palm Beach County Academic Challenge
The Palm Beach County Academic Challenge is the local level of the Commissioner’s Academic Challenge. The competition features top-performing students from every high school across Palm Beach County in a fast-paced tournament addressing the areas of language arts, mathematics, science, social studies, fine arts, world languages, and more.
The Palm Beach County Academic All-Star Team compete in April each year.
1st Annual Elementary Pre-School Curriculum Rally, #StartingStrong
The School District of Palm Beach County will host its 1st Annual Elementary Pre-School Curriculum Rally, “#Starting Strong” on August 10, 2017 from 8:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at Florida Atlantic University, Boca Raton. Over 3,000 PreK-5 teachers from Palm Beach County elementary schools are expected to attend the training event. This event is designed to prepare Elementary teachers for the new school year. Topics will include math, literacy, science, social studies, ESE, ESOL, and technology.
The School District of Palm Beach County recognizes the benefit of Wellness for their students and staff, from increased productivity and performance, to improved health and decreased stress. The District has several programs in place to address Wellness, as well as a Wellness Promotion Task Force that meets regularly to showcase what is being done throughout the District, and to gather resources from our community that can assist in our health and wellness goals.
Tenth Annual Homegrown Summer Literacy Institute
Growing Readers, Writers, and Thinkers!
The Department of Elementary Education, in collaboration with the Departments of Early Childhood Education, Multicultural and Exceptional Student Education, is hosting its 10th annual Homegrown Summer Literacy Institute. The institute will provide professional development on effective, research-based Word Study for grades K-5, and using data to plan whole and small group emergent literacy for Pre-K instruction within a balanced literacy framework. The Institute is aligned to the SDPBC Strategic Plan. These sessions will support the strategic theme: effective and relevant instruction to meet the needs of all students. Our goal is to provide this professional development to over 1600 participants.
Art Integration Cohort Project Summer Symposium
The Department of Arts Education is conducting the Arts Integration Cohort Project Summer Symposium June 6th, 7th, and 8th, 2017. The symposium will provide professional development to educators in the area of implementing high-quality, researched-based, arts-integrated instruction in (4) Title I schools. These schools include, Plumosa School of the Arts, West Riviera Elementary School, The Conservatory School at North Palm Beach, and UB Kinsey/ Palmview Elementary School.

School Volunteer and Business Partner Coordinator Appreciation Luncheon
The School District recognizes school volunteers and business partner coordinators annually at a luncheon. These individuals help place and assist volunteers and business partners at each school. These outstanding individuals make a tremendous contribution to schools’ volunteer and business partner programs and play an important role in the academic achievement of our students.
Palm Beach County Academic Games League
The Palm Beach County Academic Games League was founded in 1973 and is the local level of the Academic Games League of America (AGLOA). The competition features top-performing students from Elementary, Middle and High Schools from across Palm Beach County competing in tournament style games. To learn more click here.
