The following may better describe how the Consultant may assist you as a member:

• With the member and his/her supervisor in meetings requiring mediation or in meetings discussing allegations that may lead to disciplinary actions.
• With the member and his/her supervisor during evaluation meetings that may be of question.
• With the member and his/her supervisor during meetings discussing corrective assistance action plans or potential non-reappointment.
• With the member and staff of the Office of Professional Standards during an investigative interview (not necessarily of that member), during a Pre-Disciplinary Meeting (PDM), during a meeting when Progressive Discipline is being administered, or when Grievances are being filed on behalf of the member.
• With the member and staff of the Office of the Inspector General during any interview or investigation.
• With the member and staff of the Office of General Counsel (Legal Dept.) during any interview or investigation.
• With the member and staff of various HR departments such as ADA/EEO, Risk and Benefits Management or other District staff.
• With the member and any staff of District Leadership including Instructional or Regional Superintendents, Assistant Superintendents, CAO, Chief of Staff, Chief Financial Officer, Deputy Superintendent or Superintendent.
• With the member and staff of the FLDOE Office of Professional Practices.

If a member is called to a meeting and the subject of the meeting places the member in a defensive, unexpected, or uncomfortable setting; the member should request the meeting be suspended and rescheduled when the Staff Association Consultant is available to attend. Early intervention with the Consultant increases the opportunity and possibility for a more positive outcome for the NBU employee/member.

The Consultant advocates for the NBU employees/members on a large variety of items with District staff, Leadership, and the School Board including the following:

• In discussions regarding NBU employee salaries and fringe benefits.
• In negotiations with the School Board on behalf of the NBU employees.
• In representing NBU employees/members for Grievances relevant to the bargaining group.
• Regularly attending School Board meetings and communicating with School Board Members on issues pertinent to NBU employees.
• Regularly meeting with the Superintendent or other Leadership Team members on issues or concerns that may interfere with NBU employees’ ability to successfully carry out their designated duties.

Staff Association members may encounter experiences or issues that don’t or won’t require representation, but there may be a need by the member to get a professional perspective. The Consultant can be available to discuss with the member these experiences or issues and offer advice or direction to the member upon request.

The Staff Association and the Consultant do not provide employment services, but the Consultant can provide advice or direction on how the member can seek other positions in the District.

Any and all conversations or information shared between a member and the Consultant are held in confidence. However, when necessary to bring resolution to a concern, the Consultant will seek approval from the member to share information provided in confidence with relevant District staff.
