Congratulations to the finalists of the 36th annual William T. Dwyer Awards for Excellence in Education. Click here for the list of 28 finalists. The Economic Council of Palm Beach County Foundation and its sponsors made the announcement online on April 1, saying it is an especially critical time to honor outstanding educators, as teachers transition their classrooms to distance learning.

The Dwyer Awards is an annual program of the Economic Council, recognizing outstanding educators from public and private schools in Palm Beach County. The program seeks to increase awareness of the exemplary teaching in the community, while supporting educators and schools with financial awards and encouraging residents to promote high standards of excellence in education.

Finalists were announced in seven categories: Early Learning Education, Elementary Education, Middle School Education, Senior High Education, Career Education, Special Support Programs, and STEM Education. One winner will be determined in each of the categories.

The finalists will do virtual interviews with the judges on April 18. The annual awards ceremony is canceled because the Kravis Center for the Performing Arts is closed through May. The Economic Council still plans to announce the winners in May and then honor all finalists at a luncheon later this year. Winners will receive $3,500 and each finalist will receive $500.

Applicants are judged on their classroom accomplishments, personal education philosophy, leadership and outside-of-the-classroom school-related or community-based activities. The judging panel is comprised of nearly 100 Palm Beach County business leaders who evaluated each application in a multi-round judging process. They will also choose the seven winners.
