The Florida Department of Education recognizes November as Florida Family Engagement in Education Month, a time to celebrate the crucial role parents and families play in their children's education.

The School District of Palm Beach County believes that the education of children is a responsibility shared by parents, families, the school system, and the community. Those roles and responsibilities are pivotal in ensuring that children are adequately educated. Schools, teachers, and staff are committed to developing a strong, ongoing partnership with parents/families to strengthen both home and school learning environments.

The District has provided safe resources and suggestions on how parents can stay continually engaged with their child, including a Guide to Virtual Learning, support for reading at home with Just Read Families!, and early learning family resources.

Title 1 Schools

The District's Title I schools are posting Parent and Family Engagement Plans to their respective school websites under the Student & Parent section. Parents are encouraged to visit those websites to read more about the innovative ways Title I schools are engaging families across the District. Parents can also check out the Title 1 Annual Parent’s Right to Know.

Caring First

The Caring First site aims to remove barriers for students and families by providing access to services that improve the social, emotional, behavioral, and academic development of all students. The mission of the District’s Department of Behavioral and Mental Health is to expand behavioral and mental health awareness and support for all students, to enhance their social and emotional development and academic success.

Parent University

Parent University is an on-demand resource created to help parents become full partners in their child’s education. The goal is to increase collaboration and involvement between schools, families, and the community. Work is also done to educate, empower, and connect families with resources that build parent and student confidence, enhance character development, and promote life skills to increase the likelihood of success in academic endeavors. Parents will have access to on-demand content to view at their leisure.

Family Engagement Night

The Department of Multicultural Education hosted a Family Engagement Night in October. Google Meet sessions were offered in multiple languages, and involved review of SIS Gateway, student attendance, learning standards, internet safety, and more.

P.A.L.M. Skills Academy

Anxiety remains for some students who are still learning in a virtual setting, and may need additional resources to reinforce their lessons. P.A.L.M. Skills Academy is a valuable resource created exclusively by the District to support students during distance learning, offering instructional videos and materials to help students master the essential skills necessary to ensure academic success.
