The Economic Council of Palm Beach County has announced that the nomination process for the 2021 William T. Dwyer Awards for Excellence in Education is currently open. Nominations must be submitted by the designated school liaison online by 5 p.m. on Wednesday, December 16, 2020.

Over the past 36 years, the Dwyer Awards has grown to be the premier teacher recognition event in Palm Beach County. It honors more than 200 educators for their professional abilities and leadership qualities while bringing recognition to educators for the time and effort they put into educating students. Awards are given in seven categories:

• STEM Education

• Student Advancement and Career Education

• Special/Support Programs

• Grow Up Great: Early Learning

• Elementary School

• Middle School

• Senior High School

All full-time, certified teachers who are responsible for student achievement by instructing children in either a traditional or non-traditional classroom setting are eligible to be nominated. Educators must be certified through the state of Florida. Candidates must have completed three full years of teaching in Palm Beach County Schools, not including the current school year.

The Economic Council has expanded the Dwyer Awards, creating a new category for Student Advancement and Career Education. School Counselors and Speech Pathologists are now eligible for an award in that category. There is a $3,500 prize that will be awarded to one lucky recipient in each of the categories. Finalists will receive $500.

The 2021 Dwyer Awards will take place on Tuesday, May 25, 2021.
