Art in the Capitol

Students in Grades 6-8 Encouraged to Enter Art in the Capitol Competition

The Art in the Capitol Competition is a statewide visual arts competition for all students in grades 6 through 8 attending public, private, and home schools in Florida.

The School District of Palm Beach County’s K-12 Arts Education team is currently accepting submissions for the contest, and encourages eligible District students to submit their artwork digitally through the online form. Artwork must be submitted no later than Tuesday, October 26.

Winning entries will be forwarded to the legislator of the student's respective legislative district. The winning selection from each district will be on display at the Capitol during the Florida legislative session.

All artwork submitted to the contest must follow these guidelines:

• Artwork must be two-dimensional.

• Artwork must weigh less than 15 pounds and no larger than 28" x 28" x 4".

• Submissions must be original in concept, design, and execution.

• Entries cannot violate any copyright laws.

• Artwork must include the student's name, grade, school of enrollment, and the city in which the school is located.

• Form PBSD 1941 Release and Consent for Student Information Publication must be submitted for each student submission and kept on file at the school.

The Florida Department of Management Services (DMS) will receive and display the winning artwork. DMS may post the following information on their website, the artist's name, school, and county, name of the artwork (if provided), art medium used, legislator's name, and the location where the art is displayed. Important dates for the FY22 Art in the Capitol Competition:

• Tuesday, October 26, 2021 – deadline for contest entries. Submissions must be made through the online form.

• Monday, November 15, 2021 – deadline for each district's winning selection of student artwork to be given to the legislator of the legislative district in which the student resides.

• Tuesday, January 11, 2022 – start of the regular legislative session and opening date of the exhibit at the Capitol.

• Friday, March 11, 2022 – Last day of the regular legislative session. Legislator will return winning submission to the student after this date.
