Capoeira-Brazilian Martial Arts-People with Disabilities

Capoeira is a hybrid Brazilian martial arts combining dance, language, culture, rhythm and music as well as acrobatics and self-defense. Capoeira is true functional training in which all muscle groups are integrated with intense cardio which has been shown to be the most effective path to fitness by world class athletes and weekend warriors alike. Come experience the true spirit of Capoeira which welcomes all levels and abilities. The classes are structured as follows: Stretching/warm-up and strengthening exercises. Portuguese language is used during the class and you will learn numbers, movements, songs and basic vocabulary while training. Also, we teach music and how to play specific Capoeira instruments: berimbau, pandeiro and atabaque. Marcio "Mr. M" is from Porto Alegre, Brazil and started practicing Capoeira when he was 9 years old. Since then, Capoeira has been his lifestyle: learning, practicing, teaching, and applying the Capoeira principles as a way of life. This particular class is modified for students with disabilities.

 Gentle Hatha and Meditation is a one hour class that explores the integral connection of mind and body. The class begins with a slow, gentle physical Hatha Yoga sequence. The meditation will introduce practices designed to calm the mind, gentle the breath and develop awareness of mind body connection. Guided imagery, mudras, mantras, music, and breathing techniques are all explored to introduce students to the benefits of reducing stress and increase clarity. Experience Balance & Harmony through a slow and mindful class to release tension, reduce stress, and promote relaxation. Emphasis will be placed on self-awareness, breath, and honoring the body. This class is appropriate for beginners as well as experienced students who enjoy a mindful and relaxing yoga class. Begins with breathing exercises and end with focused body relaxation exercises. Class is held in a dimly lit room with optional use of essentials oil (provided.) Floor work is required - so if you have difficulty getting up from the floor, this class may not be for you.
