Sustainable Schools Programming
Green Champions
Each school Principal and department Director is asked to designate an employee who will act as the Green Champion. Green Champions are school staff who are passionate about teaching environmental awareness and are leaders in advocating sustainable practices within their school or facility. Green Champions lead sustainability activities via a green team and serve as the point of contact for the Environmental Conservation Services (ECS) Department.
Green Champions have the opportunity to earn up to a $500 stipend. They can also earn an additional $200 mini-grant to purchase eco-friendly classroom supplies.
Student Climate Coalition
Student voice plays an important role in sustainable practices on school campuses. This program aims to encourage student action and leadership to drive green decision-making.

District Preserves
The District manages thirteen permitted wetland and upland preserves at various properties throughout the county. Several preserves are natural and others are man-made mitigation projects for school construction activities. The District maintains, enhances, and restores regulated sites including removal of exotic and invasive plant species.
