The School District of Palm Beach County Transportation Services Department continues to actively hire bus drivers ensure that the nearly 650 routes driven daily are adequately staffed.
To better help with the hiring process, the department has a new way to assist those who are interested in becoming a bus driver for the District get through the application process.
The department will have computers and representatives available for applicants who wish to apply in person and need assistance with the application process. Interested applicants can visit the West Palm Beach Transportation depot at 3376 Summit Blvd., Portable P#11 on Mondays and Wednesdays from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
“We have had a very successful year with hiring and retaining our drivers,” said George Millar, General Manager for Training / Safety / Compliance / Recruitment & Retention for the Transportation Services department.“But to ensure we always have enough drivers to meet our needs, we decided to get creative in how to further assist those who are interested in joining us.”
School District school bus drivers receive a starting salary of $14.00 per hour with medical, dental and vision insurances and other benefits.
Those wishing to apply should have:
- Been a licensed driver for at least five years with a good driving record,
- Clearly communicate in English in both oral and written form,
- Be able to pass a Level II background screening, dexterity test, Department of Transportation physical, and pre-employment drug screening.
Preferred candidates will meet the above requirements and possess a Class A or B Commercial Driver’s License, with air brakes, Passenger and School Bus endorsements. However, a Commercial Driver’s License is not required to enter the District’s training program.
