The School District of Palm Beach County in collaboration with the Palm Beach County Library System will organize many activities again this year in commemoration of Haitian Heritage Month. The month-long series of events will take place at different library branches in the county, along with several traditional school and community celebrations.
Haitian Heritage Month recognizes the valuable contributions made by Haitians to the history of the World. It is a celebration of Haitian history and culture and an opportunity to share this culture with the community. Haitian and Haitian-American students represent the largest ethnic minority group from a single country in the District, with about 15,871 students according to latest data. Community activists estimate that Palm Beach County is home to more than 90,000 Haitians dispersed throughout the 37 municipalities.
Events and initiatives will include the traditional student essay contest sponsored by Gaskov Clergé Foundation, teen book discussion, adult book discussion, book showcase, cultural presentation, interactive storytelling, film presentation and much more!
