On average, three children drown each day in the United States. Florida has the highest rate of drowning in the nation, and Palm Beach County ranks third in the state for deaths caused by drowning.
The Drowning Prevention Coalition of Palm Beach County is working to change these alarming statistics. The organization has partnered with local agencies, such as the Devos-Blum Family YMCA of Boynton Beach, to offer free or reduced-price swimming classes this summer.
The hope is that by offering low or no-cost swimming lessons and drowning prevention tips, drowning-related deaths will eventually be eliminated in Palm Beach County.
