FPL/NextEra Energy and Lion Country Safari were recently honored at the 2018 Learners to Earners Workforce Summit hosted by the Florida Chamber Foundation.
Florida Commissioner of Education Pam Stewart was on hand to recognize the two School District outstanding Business Partners for their commitment to students in Palm Beach County.
For the past 11 years, FPL/NextEra Energy has been a significant partner in education with William T. Dwyer High School. The company has built a strong connection with students by helping to teach real-world practical skills and leadership traits that shape students beyond the traditional classroom.
FPL/NextEra Energy’s executives also participate in the school’s Academy of Finance, providing classes with college-level materials that involve constructing financial models on revenue, expenses, depreciation, amortization, cash flow, and project feasibility using Microsoft Excel. Additionally, students can participate in various financial/leadership workshops and get exposure to corporate entities.
Lion Country Safari has actively supported Golden Grove Elementary School and made a positive difference in students’ lives. Their efforts include raising much-needed funds to benefit students and teachers, as well as donating more than $10,800 in admission tickets to support K-12 education over the past 11 years.
Through this partnership, Lion Country Safari participates in Career Day, bringing live animals to the school while explaining to students the types of jobs that exist in their industry and the qualifications needed for those jobs. To learn more about becoming a business partner, click here.
