Poinciana ElementaryPoinciana STEM Elementary TAZ BOTS are hosting a Presentation Night on March 29th at 6:00 p.m. in the Café, to demonstrate our robotics program for the First Lego League.  Join us for an evening of fun and witness first hand our students in action!  Admission is free ~ donations greatly appreciated.

Poinciana was well represented by the TAZ BOTS and TAZ BOTS ROOKIES who shined, at the Ten-Year Anniversary of FIRST Lego Leagues State Competition at the Florida Institute of Technology on February 26, 2012.  The final top 48 teams from the State of Florida competed and two of these teams were from Poinciana.  Our 4th grade team received the Team Spirit Award for their enthusiasm and ability to deal with obstacles with great attitudes.  Our 5th grade team received the Florida Director’s Award, which was the 2nd place trophy for the tournament.  The Director’s Award is the most prestigious award that a team can win.  It celebrates the ultimate success of the FIRST mission and FIRST Lego League Core Values.  This award is for teams who passionately support a cause.  For FIRST Lego League, the Director’s Award winners inspire and motivate others about the excitement of science, technology, solving problems, working as a team and demonstrating respect and gracious professionalism. Along with this award, the 5th grade team received an invitation to attend the First Lego League World Invitational Open in May being held at Lego Land in Lakeland, Florida.  Poinciana’s team will be one of 64 teams from around the world invited to attend this competition.

A special thank you to Ms. Gibson for her dedication and commitment to Poinciana’s teams.  Ms. Gibson was recognized at the recent competition and received the Outstanding Volunteer Award.  She made significant contributions during the year to help FIRST Lego League grow not only in our school but in the State of Florida.  Ms. Gibson organized the FIRST Lego League Tournament here at Poinciana in January to promote FIRST Lego League Robotics.  Congratulations to Ms. Gibson and to all the students on the teams.  Way to go TAZBOTS!
