Thirty-two Dreyfoos Band Majors were selected for the All-State Ensembles in the 2014 Florida Music Educators All-State competition, once again making Dreyfoos students the most chosen band students in the state of Florida.  The school also broke the thirty- student mark for the second time in the past three years.  Twenty Strings Majors were selected for the All-State Ensemble and twenty-one Vocal Majors qualified for participation in the All-State Choruses.  The students will travel to Tampa, on January 8-10, 2014, to perform in the various ensembles and work with leading conductors and composers from around the United States.   

Other awards received by Dreyfoos School of the Arts Music students:

Maxwell Stein, senior Band Major, was selected as a 2014 Young Arts Winner from the National Young Arts Foundation and received a merit award for French Horn/Classical and a monetary scholarship. 

Sophomore violinist, Yuri Santos, was the first place winner in the South Florida Young Artist Competition.

Taisuke Yasuda won the Dreyfoos School of the Arts Concerto Competition and he will perform his solo in a concert in April 2014.

There are four finalists, Tinca Belinschi, Roey Dushi, Kimberly Le and Taisuke Yasuda, for the Alhambra Chamber Orchestra Competition in Miami. There were a total of eight finalists in the state and half are Dreyfoos musicians.

Juan Suarez, senior, was named a Merit award recipient in Classical Voice in the Young Arts National competition. Virginia Mims, junior, has qualified as a Finalist in Classical Voice in the Young Arts National competition.  She will be traveling to Miami in January to compete for her final ranking and scholarship funds.

The School of the Arts singers received a standing ovation for their performance at the State Convention of the American Choral Directors Association on November 1. Eighty singers from the Vocal Department will be performing in the 5 pm performance of the Walt Disney World Candlelight Pageantry at Epcot on December 21.
