The School District has announced Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day, will take place Thursday, March 6, 2014. The National Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day is scheduled for April 24, 2014, unfortunately that date is in the middle of State FCAT testing and schools are not able to have visitors on campus or have large numbers of students out of school during testing.  In previous years when there has been a scheduling conflict, the District has moved the date to May but this has caused a hardship for students and schools because of graduations and testing that occurs in May.

In order to honor this event for our employees and students, while not disrupting end-of-year activities and testing, the District will move Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day to Thursday, March 6, 2014.  This date was chosen because it does not conflict with other District-wide activities.

The School District is participating in Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day with students (kindergarten and above) accompanying a parent or guardian to their workplace.  Educators have found that the day applies to several common academic goals, since it offers “real world” applications to school studies, furthers partnerships between schools and the business community, encourages gender equity, and enhances mentoring programs.  This event encourages young people to stay in school, seek postsecondary education, and pursue a greater variety of careers.

Students participating in the event should submit a note to the school in advance.  Participating students will receive an absence for the day; however, it will be an excused absence.
