Addison Mizner Elementary School raised close to $40,000 for the American Heart Association, a feat that stirred a lot of pride throughout the campus.

To motivate students to reach their goal, principal Joshua Davidow agreed to kiss a pig for their fundraising efforts. Then on April 26, he did just that. Davidow kissed Bentley the Pig during the morning announcements and also performed for students.

“I’m tremendously impressed every day with the community here,” Davidow said. “It’s unbelievable the outpouring of support and generosity, and I’m really excited to be a part of such a fantastic community.”

The school raised the highest amount out of any public school in Florida, with a total of $39,709 generated for the cause. Amanda McCoy, one of the teachers at the school, saw her class raise the most money with $2,900.

Mrs. McCoy's class raised $2,900.

“I can’t tell you how proud I am. I mean it’s not just the students and staff, it’s the community too,” said Susie Cox, the school’s Kids Heart Challenge Coordinator.

“It’s great to see these kids not just pledge to raise money for the American Heart Association, but also to have a healthier lifestyle by making better eating choices, drinking more water and exercising,” said Sarah Gauldin, Youth Market Director for the American Heart Association.
