A total of $50,000 in cash prizes is up for grabs in the Census Video Prize Challenge launched by Census Accelerate, an initiative of the Census Open Innovation Labs. The first-ever video prize competition will reward the most engaging, impactful, and informative videos about the 2020 Census.

Census Accelerate joined with advocacy and civic engagement groups, the entertainment industry, and the government to maximize outreach efforts to ensure a complete and accurate count. Now they’re challenging civically-engaged content creators and organizations to submit their own outreach videos to support the goal of a complete count of their communities.

The deadline for video submissions is Thursday, May 7 at 11:59 p.m. EST.

Grand prize is $30,000. A runner up will receive $10,000 and a student prize of $10,000 will also be awarded.

Submitted videos should be between 30 seconds to three minutes in duration.

Videos should speak to a hard-to-count community.

Content should align with the reminder phase of the Census: "It's not too late to respond either online, via phone, or by mail."

The contest organizers want entrants to remain socially distanced and are understanding that videos will be limited to what can be produced while many people are at home. Judges will factor that into their evaluation.

Please see the list of Frequently Asked Questions.

A virtual information session will be held on April 23 from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. EST to learn more about the challenge. Attendance is optional.
