Beginning Teacher and Mentor Teacher of the year Finalists and Winners

The Beginning Teacher of the Year Award was created by the Department of Professional Growth to honor beginning teachers for their commitment to their craft, and for showing tremendous dedication to doing what is best for kids. One teacher at the elementary level, and one teacher at the secondary level receive the award.

As part of the award process, finalists are asked to describe their biggest classroom victory, and how they’ve built relationships with students. This gives the finalists an opportunity to elaborate on the work they do in their classrooms.

The Mentor Teacher of the Year Award was created to recognize the valuable contributions of experienced professionals who support and guide new teachers through their first year in a classroom. One teacher at the elementary level, and one teacher at the secondary level receive the award. Finalists for the award are asked to talk about why they became a mentor and the qualities that make them effective in their role.
