The Education Foundation of Palm Beach County is asking for the community’s help to provide students with all the tools they need to succeed this school year while learning from home or at school, once campuses are able to reopen.

The Backpack and School Supply Drive, in partnership with Red Apple Supplies, will be going on through August 31. A $25 donation provides a student with a backpack filled with school supplies.

“When we give a child a backpack, we’re not just giving supplies,” said James Gavrilos, president/CEO of the Education Foundation. “We are giving dignity. We are giving hope. We are giving a future.”

The Education Foundation and its sponsors have already dropped off thousands of backpacks and supplies at several schools in the District, such as Glade View Elementary, Belle Glade Elementary, Pahokee Elementary, Gove Elementary, Lincoln Elementary, and Belvedere Elementary.

To donate, text PBCBACKPACK to 41444 or find more information online here.

Troy, a student at Citrus Cove Elementary, set up his own virtual supply drive for The Education Foundation for his ninth birthday on August 12. He celebrated his special day with donated school supplies from family and friends in lieu of birthday gifts. Troy enjoys using his birthday to serve the community.

“Troy has always had a big heart and a desire to do good for others,” said his mom, Leann. “Before his third birthday, we talked to him about using his birthday as an opportunity to help others and he loved the idea. We are really excited to be a part of the Education Foundation of Palm Beach County's drive this year.”

Companies can set up peer-to-peer fundraising efforts by texting PBCBACKPACK to 71777.
