Chris Cartagena

Answer: This Wellington Landings Middle School U.S. History and Social Studies teacher put his wealth of knowledge up against other great minds on Jeopardy.

Question: Who is Chris Cartagena?

Cartagena is a graduate of Suncoast Community High School and is also the speech and debate coach at Wellington Landings Middle. He appeared on the show on February 25 and says it was a dream come true.

"I became interested in the show in 2004 during the Ken Jennings' streak and one evening I got so caught up in an episode, that I almost burnt the house down," Cartagena said.

Cartagena auditioned for the show several times and got the call last December that he had been picked for the Los Angeles-based show.

“I am so excited for Mr. Cartagena,” said Blake Bennett, the Principal at Wellington Landings Middle. “He worked hard to achieve his goal and it is such a great experience to share with his students.”

On social media, parents of students congratulated Cartagena and said it was a joy to watch him compete. Although Cartagena did not win, he held a substantial lead for a good part of the show and walked away with an experience of a lifetime.
