During the board meeting on February 23, 2022, the School Board approved an increase to the base hourly rate for substitute teachers, new substitute hiring categories, and an increase in the base hourly pay for afterschool counselors, certified counselors, and activity leaders.

The new hiring categories and pay boost for substitute teachers and afterschool positions will allow the District to be more competitive in the surrounding labor market to attract and retain qualified candidates.

The new substitute hiring categories and pay rates are as follows:

• $14.30 per hour for those with a high school diploma or equivalent.

• $14.57 per hour for those with one (1) to fewer than 30 earned college credits/hours.

The four existing substitute hiring categories will receive the increased pay stated below, reflecting a $2.50 per hour increase:

• $14.83 per hour for people with 30 to 59 earned college credits/hours.

• $15.09 per hour for those with an associate degree, OR 60 or more earned college credits/hours.

• $16.89 per hour for people with a bachelor’s degree or higher.

• $17.41 per hour for retired teachers (both in-state and out-of-state).

The substitute pay increase of $2.50 per hour is temporary and will be supported using federal ESSER funds, as allocated through June 2024.

Afterschool counselors, certified counselors, and activity leaders will receive a $2.00 per hour pay increase, with the new higher rate as indicated below:

• $14.12/hour – Afterschool Counselor

• $14.45/hour – Afterschool Certified Counselor

• $14.57/hour – Afterschool Activity Leader

Afterschool position pay increases will be funded using Afterschool Programming budget funding, as well as ESSER funding.

The District is currently hiring substitute teachers, afterschool positions, as well as many others. Those interested can apply online. Applicants are encouraged to contact the HR Customer Care Center with any questions.
